let's talk about air filters (again)
Discussion
I'm sure this question has been asked before, but I can't find it anywhere.
I'm looking at modding my 1.2 seat ibiza FR (110HP) with a new turbo, exhaust, Induction kit and remap to take it up to 185HP.
It's a popular mod for this engine, but it's my first time modding a car and I'm wondering if the induction kit is really needed.
I've seen an awful lot of discussions on induction kits vs standard filters which rarely make any difference at all, but these tests are always done on standard engines.
Also, there's the issue of heat with an induction kit
Then there's performance filters, but will this work with the standard air box/hoses?
So, I'm wondering whether to follow the crowd and get an induction kit, get a performance panel filter or just keep it standard?
Anyone got any advice?

OP,
That’s quite an increase in power over standard. So what I’d do is leave the induction kit and just do the other mods. Then, once you’re used to the modded engine, see if you think the engine isn’t as sweet at the top end of the rev range in 2nd and 3rd gear. That’s where a restrictive induction system will have greatest negative effect. Then I’d check out any rev counter videos on YouTube and compare with how yours revs.
One area where some turbo engines suffer is with the turbo inlet pipe. At higher revs and boost, the suction inside this pipe can cause it to collapse, severely limiting power.

You need to read my post and find out what the oem intake will flow! No point in doing the turbo and remap to then find out that the OEM intake is limiting power.
Speak to the person who will be remapping it and they will tell you if adding an intake is worth it or not. Some OEM intakes flow ok, some don’t.

Which is fine if the remapper has no connection to induction kit sales. Speak to the person who will be remapping it and they will tell you if adding an intake is worth it or not. Some OEM intakes flow ok, some don’t.

Yeah will do, I'll ask when I book it in (and make sure he's not connected to sales haha)Speak to the person who will be remapping it and they will tell you if adding an intake is worth it or not. Some OEM intakes flow ok, some don’t.
Thanks for the advice 🙂
