Always the same... frequently doesn't appear to be much (any?} logic to who's car gets built first at times!

I ordered an RS Clio once and after some 5+ months, not even a build date! While other folks ordered after me, had already got their cars!!
Neither the dealer or Renault Customer Support seemed to give a toss. So I cancelled my order and went down to Manchester the next day and bought a nice X-demo.

My dealer has gone very quiet for some reason and hasn't bothered to answer the last two Emails that I sent them. Hopefully this doesn't mean that my build date has slipped!! TBC

Unluckily not!

Bit annoyed with the dealer really, only takes a couple of seconds for them to reply to an Email.

I'm going to phone them mid next week. As "in theory" my build week is only two weeks away!!

Did you receive the vw email, stating going into production?
As my dealer rang to give my build date a week or so before it arrived. Then he rang again a week or 2 ago to say the same thing. Probably excited to give positive updates, rather than the let down spiel.
In fairness he has always rung back, 6pm the one evening. 🤞for the dealership call in the week.

Nope... no letter from VW about the car going into production. Only letter that I've had from VW, was the one about build / delivery delays in general. That though was a while back now, think most people got that one.

I'll post some feedback "if" I manage to get hold off and speak to the dealer next week. I'm just hoping it's not going to be bad news. Up till now the sales guy has always been prompt in replying to Emails (even one Sunday when he was supposedly on holiday). It's not like I've been bothering them several times a week. TBC

Managed to get through to my dealer today and had a nice long chat with the sales guy. My order is now confirmed (status 20) with a build week of 22 (should be the first week in June). So hopefully only a couple of weeks and it should at least get built. Though life being life, always a chance it could get stuck in build (part missing etc.). Fingers crossed. TBC

PS. He sent me a screen print of the order status, which backs the above up.

Same week as mine then probably. Everything must be progressing fine, as I can't add anything to my order, so dealer is going to price a retrofit reversing camera, so we'll see what they can do on price. I'm undecided as I've never used one before.

I think a reversing camera is one of those things that you tend to think is a bit unnecessary, until you've had one ... and then you don't want to be without one.

A bit like a heated steering wheel. First thing I turn on when it gets below 10C. I'm going to miss it on the Polo. Not a deal breaker though.

Not too sure how easy it will be to retrofit a reversing camera though. Especially to integrate it with the infotainment system? Unless the wiring is already in place and all it needs is the camera under the boot flap and a software update. I'll be interested to hear what your dealer says / comes back with.

When I think back to the first couple of cars that I owned. You got a heater in the car and that was about it. Showing my age here me thinks smile

The retrofit seems quite straightforward. There are a few YouTube videos, the cable should be the longest part.
I'll let you know what they come back with.
It's something I should have added at the start.

about an hour to fit this company recons...

By my reckoning that's build week 22 coming to a close. So hopefully that's my new car built.

So was momentarily excited to see that I had an Email from my sales guy. Then somewhat deflated to find that he was off on holiday for a couple of weeks, back on the 20th June. Though he did go on and say "the car is due built in the next week or so", so maybe this week isn't 22?, or it's just that their system takes a while to update. Anywho... at least I should know one way and another by the 20th June.

Must admit that I'm not good at the "waiting game" at the best of times.

Thanks for letting us have an update Mike, I was wondering if you had heard anything, my build date is the 6th so hopefully Monday.
Memory fades me now if it was week 22 or week 23. I`m lost by it all now.
It`s not week 24 as that should have been the 17th June, going from the first Friday ( 7th Jan) in 2022. Although I read somewhere VW might use end of December as a start date...
I won`t be surprised if we have all our cars for new reg in September, that could be what they are aiming for with the dealers now.
June must be Polo build month...
It`s certainly been an experience.

Am I the only one to have recently been given an actual date by my dealer, instead of a build week ?
As I make the 6th June, 23 weeks from the 1st Monday of 2022.
With any luck I might hear something soon. The VW email was about a week behind the dealer phone call.

How long is a build likely to take ?

I suspect that the date you have been given refers to the start of the build week (IE. in your case, week 23).

According to Mr GOOGLE it takes "18 to 35 hours to produce one mass-market vehicle". My sales guy comment at one point "that it takes approx a week for a car to be built". So that sort of tallies up with GOOGLE.

Not bothered about the plate change in September, as I have a private reg. And I doubt over 4 years of ownership, that it will make much (if any) difference to a trade in price when it's time for the car to go back. If it was a year change, then maybe.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a hand over by mid August (I'm an optimist).

TBC

PS. I've not had an Email from VW about my build though. I wonder if this is normal practice? Just wondering if by any chance that you were maybe signed up for the VW tracking app (before it was taken down)?

I had in my mind a week for build, but you never know atm.
I'm tempted to wait for September, if it's going to be a few weeks ish in or near August, as car is a belated birthday present ( now longer than anticipated)
It is possible dealer signed me up for email notification, as I was his first face-lift order, as he did try to sell me the non face lift. I wonder if VW were trying to sell these before building the face-lift, due to my build delay
As I'm probably on the same build week as a February order.
Hopefully we will all get good news in a week or 2, and the countdown for shipping will begin.
