Long wait for parts

Further to previous chat on the "Kodiaq, petrol or diesel" thread, my Kodiaq's been off the road since the 9th Jan with a knackered DSG.

I am on to the dealer once or twice a week, and whilst I can understand the issues of the Christmas holiday and Ukraine war affecting manufacturing and shipping of parts, large or small, the fact that they aren't always updated when a part's in transit, seems crazy to me.

My parts could turn up on a pallet tomorrow and the dealer won't know they're coming!

Anyone else got a VW Group car off the road at the moment, due to a failed DSG?

Finally, I cannot ever recommend a Honda HR-V, or, for that matter, Skoda Roadside Assistance!

Does anyone have a contact at Mobex by any chance? Dealer not having any luck, of course!

What happened to the DSG? What kind of mileage is on it?

Yes, my TT is at the garage. It's awaiting a small, cheap gasket, which is probably at the bottom of the Red Sea.

I could take one off an old car but then if it goes, I'm back to square one.

It's a 2019 Kodiaq 2.0T DSG and the issue is with the mechatronic unit apparently.

It's on 43,000 miles. Bought in June at 38,000.

Thanks. Hope your DSG gets fixed... cheaply!

CT Cars in Surrey sound like they know what they're doing if you don't have any luck with your dealer.

The main annoying thing is that I am doing the everyday journeys in the Porsche, getting stuck in traffic with people squeezing around each other, having to park in public car parks to collect a door dink here and there, being tailgated by drivers in family wagons wanting me to break the speed limit in 20 zones. That's what the TT was supposed to be for!

This is normal. Always been this way and probably always will. The branch of TPS will probably know the day before but it isn't practical to update each customer on each individual back-ordered part when they could be dealing with hundreds of them daily.

If you're paying for the repair yourself I can put you on to a specialist, but if it's going through a franchise dealer then as annoying as it is you've got to sit on your hands.

Thanks both, I'll remember this thread for future reference, very helpful.

Luckily this is an approved used Kodiaq so it's sat at the dealer under warranty.

However, the administration of trying to get rid of the asthmatic Honda HR-V for something more akin to our Kodiaq prior to the Easter holidays, is proving a challenge and, annoyingly, it's time I'll never get back!

Seems early for a failure, could just be some bad luck.

As I cannot update on any parts having arrived, I thought i'd instead say that we've finally got rid of the HR-V and now in its place have a rather nice Volvo XC40. The rear blind spots are terrible and the back seat space isn't all that, but it's a solid car and nice to drive.

Probably helps that it's got the same CC and output as our Kodiaq, but in a smaller car. I presume the Volvo isn't 4WD ether.

No news on parts. The dealer now has a second Kodiaq on site awaiting same stuff.

Having briefly considered a new career as a car reviewer, having had three rentals in two months, I wondered if my two month (on Saturday) wait for parts would be considered as part of the "giving the dealer/manufacturer an opportunity to repair your car" remit of rejecting a problematic vehicle?

The gearbox went just after six months after purchasing the car.

Difficult, as you'd need to be able to prove the fault was pre-existing.

They haven't said they won't/can't fix it, or failed to fix it. It is maddening that the process is so slow, but their hands are tied.

You could certainly enquire about getting out of it by them getting you an alternative car, buying it back etc. but that's not a legal matter.

Thanks for that Dr G.

As it happens, I got "the call" last Thurs that the car was ready, so picked it up on Friday. It's nice to be back in our own car again.

The whole process has been shocking, from the "I've done all I can" crew at the dealer, the experience with the AA/Skoda Assist to having to chase the "Proactive" (yes, really) team at Mobex for an equivalent car.

At least I know now I'll never buy a Honda HR-V and that the Volvo XC40 is quite nice!
