Picking up 2017 Golf R this weekend.

One thing I noticed on test was the Soundaktor didn’t seem as loud as the one that I had in a 2015 Golf R years ago.

I wonder if it’s been coded out? (Race mode had it set to Race) or maybe it’s just quieter than I remember.

Is there any way to tell? Or do I need something like ODBEleven/dongle and app to find out and customise?

Alternatively, is there a way in the dash to “reset” all to factory setting, undoing and changes some previous owner did with VCDS or OBD tool?

Might just be unplugged - worth checking first.

You can change it on OBD eleven yes, I was going to take it off my S5 but thought the tool was too expensive just for that.

indeed could be unplugged but obdeleven will let you code it out.

I find the soundakator obnoxious and fake, it sounds much better on the wifes when disabled

open the bonnet, centre scuttle panel unscrews, reach inside and look for loose wire

Thanks!

Anyone know about general reset, in case previous owners had changed anything? Or does reset not do that (i.e. I’ll need ODBEleven - only £100 or so so may do so once I investigate what it does…)

I think you have to set/reset them individually and obdeleven uses chargeable credits for each adaption

If you have VCDS you can check and modify the soundaktor setting.
The default value is 100.

I turned both my Leon FR and my Golf GTD down to 30.

Pretty sure it’s all connected from what I can see.

So must be coded down to 0% or something?

Part of me likes it and may keep it as is, no fake burbles and also no pops/bangs (that i could hear anyway) so that may have been coded out as well?

its not the most inspiring engine but I'd rather hear the proper exhaust than the fake bass the soundakator gives
