recommendations and advice on a cheapish audi/vw estate

Hi all
We are moving house and sadly my R32 has to go, the deal with my wife was bigger house, cheaper/more economical car.....
Im looking to buy a passat/a4/a6 tdi, as I need to fill it with dogs and soon a wee man.
Can anyone tell me of any problems I may have with high milage/older tdi's. I have seen some great a6's for around 8-11k with 70-100k miles, would I be buying a can of worms?
I would really apreciate any advice anyone can give me.......and if anyone fancies a 5 door, 15k mile, black, 53 plate r32 give me a shout!

A4 Cambelt change comes up at 80k. That's probably why so many 75k milers end up for sale. It's about £500 job and worthwhile changing the water pump and thermostat at the same time whilst everything is accesible.
I have a 2.4SE Avant that I bought for £4k in November on ......wait for it......75K. Had the cambelt done at my indy and it's now done a further 10k without a problem although the rear wiper motors got very tired recently. £30 from a scrappy and a couple of hours of skinned knuckles should sort that out. Good car, lots of space, comfy on long journeys and should go another 75k without much more than standard servicing every 10k.

It's a 98 on an R plate. 2 owners from new with full Audi history. Auto/Tip with full leather, climate, elec windows etc, etc. Pretty much all the goodies.
I bought it as I was putting too many miles on my 911 and my old V8 90 was not quite ideal transport for 500 mile round trips on the motorway. It was the perfect answer but i really miss the 90

I have a '98 1.8T saloon. 123k miles and runs like new. I don't think the oil burners are any less reliable but maybe the turbo will go sooner if its been chipped at all (all depends on how its been treated).
My car is worth 2k trade, 3k on the forecourt ish. I thought about swapping for a diesel model around 8-10k. Thing is, why spend 6-8k on a car to get 45-50mpg. I can buy a lot of petrol for that money and not face depreciation again. I'll keep mine for a bit longer (had it 5 years as a daily drive).
Personally, I'd get an A6 - bags more space than the A4 and more exclusive. Same engine and running costs. I guess slightly less mpg, but we're talking a small difference. A4s are nice cars too though.
