iguana said: The one to get IHMO is the A6 2.7 Biturbo. Pretty much the same lump as in the S4 and an easy 300+bhp with a bit of ECU fiddling or 400bhp with a pair of RS4 turbos slapped on.

Iguana, I echo you comments, especially since I have one – also excellent family car! I bought mine from an Audi main dealer for 18k - 3 years old, 1 owner, 24k miles, fully loaded! Also had the removable tow bar fitted so I can tow the 964 rsr to track days

Prior to the Audi I had a Saab 9-5 estate - IMHO nowhere near as good as the Audi. Saab went down hill when GM bought them!

Buy the Audi 2.7 bi turbo Quattro Avant!!!

I have an s6 Avant and for me it is slightly too large
weight is everywhere even the boot has floor boards!

The suckers for perceived build quality love that stuff though.

I as a piston head do not.

And because of weight suspenders are ultra hard and ride is so so.Engine is great as are dynamics for something so heavy. I think an S4 is probably a better car and compromise.

My point is if they could knock 300kg off it it would be the best thing on the road.

But if your not worried about dynamics and your buying
an estate. Buy the cheapest and in a colour your wife likes. I preferred a 156 sportwagon any day to standard A6 with "sport suspension" not very big granted but better to buy a small peach than a big pear.

Nobody has mentioned the Saab 3.0 V6 Tid (turbodiseasel). It is supposed to be a really good engine. Not as economic as the VAG ones (but then what is!).
If I could convince the missus to drive a big(er) car, I would go for a 9-5.
The Legacy is alot of car for the money, but rather thirsty.

BMW is out for me as had a very bad experience with a BMW. I think the subaru is going to be too small, but Ive had a scooby est before and loved it, so not ruled out.

The A6 is being replaced sometime soon, as is the 9-5 estate. Wife thinks the 9-5 is too big - also depreciation is worring.

Merc c estate maybee a good option or e class (old shape).

It looks like we will have to change about October time now, so we will see. Dont really want to spend more then 20k to 22k. The car will be kept for a min of 4-5 years but low miles under 6k a year.

So a 1 year old car looks the best bet. You know the dillema: £ -v wife -v- speed/fun for me -v- practicality of bigish estate -v- long term.

I have a porker for me, but not too fussed to have a slow estate for hols, but if I can i would like something with a bit of poke. but the scooby estate as mentioned is 80% going to be too small. The new legacy looks good but I understand the fast version wont be here for quite some time?
