I'm thinking of adding an R32 to my potential replacement car list, however really need to have a car that can get a semi sensible mpg as it'll be my commuter too.

Can an R32 approach 30mpg on a sensible daily commute, or does the 4x4 and the weight leave it around the 25mpg mark?

No expericence with an R32 but my V6 4motion just about gets to 31mpg, but only when driven VERY carefully on the motorway for the whole journey. Typically a motorway trip returns around 28mpg.

Getting 30mpg from an R32 is difficult. Unless you crawl along the motorway at 50mph you wont do it, but 25mpg is more realistic. I commute 10 miles each way in mine- it costs in fuel but the car more than makes up for it...

What he said!

30 mpg and a 3.2 litre V6 don't go together at all. teacher

Some R32 users doing steady motorway mileage at or below the speed limit can achieve 30+ mpg but 26 is more realistic for an average journey. I seem to average 22 or less, but that's not for commuting every day or on busy minor roads

Not an exact comparison, but i'm getting around 25mpg out of my 3.2 TT2 (3000 miles on the clock, London driving with some open road bits thrown in, and a heavy right foot to boot). The problem i find is that the V6 just sounds so good

I had an R32 on a 3 demo a few weeks back. The 3.2 is a magnificant engine. And the noise...!

Cruising along in the name of economy would be a shame in a car like this

And my bet is that once you own it, mpg will be the last thing you'll be worrying about

After 3 days and 226 miles on demo the trip computer said about 16 MPG

All in the same of science of course, and not how I'd drive my own car everyday..

The collection chuckled.. and confessed that he had seen lower than that

That's rather good, mine gets around 23 but will rise to 25-26 on a run but will get low to mid teens on a blast. yikes

Drive like a saint and I averaged 42mpg over 75miles (clock started once the car was warm, they are terrible on short journeys!) you can definately average 31 but dont kid yourself you never will!! Its just WAY too tempting to be bad and when you are... sub 10mpg has been achieved as an average over 250miles!! I've heard the demo cars can get down to 6.7 on short runs but I got an average of 9.7 driving accross the country!

Regards,

Ben

Unfortunately not! The noise is just soo good (especially with the back seats folded down -Yes I know I'm sad but try before you mock- ) that all I worried about was the £700-800 I was spending a month in fuel! That was doing about 1500miles per month. Alot of money for fuel... but worth every penny if you can afford it. I can't.

Not a R32, but we have just bought a Edition 30 GTI and we are having trouble averaging 25mpg. We do a 5-10 mile commute between Wimbledon and Richmond each day.

I was hoping for 30mpg return, but its just not possible.

However, you will soon find that driving one of these hot golfs soon make up for it.

Go for it i say.

Save a diesel for later life when petrol cars will be too heavily taxed.

One of the guys on TSN reckons he's emptied the tank in 40 minutes. haha.

I drive it a bit more carefully, and get between 22-24mpg.

I wish that were true and fuel was that cheap but over a month I've been averaging 11-13mpg and 3-4 fill ups per week (more than 3 but never quite 4 in one week) at a cost of £50-55 per tank. Fuel recipts month one were £700, 2nd month nearer £800!
