Trying to fix a Mk 1 Scirocco which has been fitted with a Weber 32/34DMTL - one of those conversion kits popular in the 80s/early 90s for replacing the shite emissions-hacked carbs fitted as standard to many vehicles.

It's running rich as arseholes, float height set as low as possible, needle valve is OK. I'm wondering if someone has at some point fitted oversize jets in a misguided attempt to make it faster, or maybe taken a Black & Decker to the existing ones.

Would be useful if anyone knows what jets ought to be fitted.

might have been fitted with the jets off a 1.8 (i'm assuming its a 15/1600)

have a look at the forum on www.sciroccoregister.co.uk, they'll be able to help, although there may be some form of cardigan tax :P

if that fails, fit a pierburg, they cost nothing, and can be made to work with some tlc...

Not got a clue what jets you should have, but I've got a bag of assorted weber jets sitting on my kitchen table right now, if its going to be trial and error. pm me yer address if you want em, i'll pop them in the post.

Many thanks for the offer, but it turned out that it did have the right jets in it after all, and I seem to have been able to restore its functionality. Only the next thing that happened was that after the owner had driven it 200 yards some crap in the fuel tank blocked the fuel line and he had to be towed home. banghead This has obviously been a long-standing problem because it turns out the fuel lines are made of 10mm copper central heating pipe. This weekend appears now to be booked for having the tank off.
