The car Im about to buy a 2007 / 07 RS4 saloon that has ' comms ' fitted ( bluetooth etc ) which is linked to the buttons on the steering wheel - by virtue of it having comms fitted it means that the car cannot be fitted with the flat bottom steering wheel ( which I really wanted )How desirable is the flat bottom wheel ? or Is the car better having comms fitted ?? Views please - thanks again Gents .

I have an RS4 Avant and really wanted the flat bottomed wheel as to me its fundamentaly part of the whole b7 rs package, my phone works perfectly well on the bluetooth connection so no problems there either, I would suggest the lack of flat bottomed wheel could slightly effect re-sale however im sure those with the round wheel who like it and use it would argue otherwise.

Otherwise good luck with your purchase im sure you wont be disapointed !

My first RS4 had the flat bottomed wheel, when I part exchanged it in for a new Avant I went for the comms and got the M/F wheel.

I missed it more than I thought, not just the look but it feels SO much better, the M/F wheel is much skinnier.

If everything else about the car is right then I would go for it, I can't imagine it would affect resale that much?

The view on rs246.com is quite different, most people think the wheel is a essential part of the RS4 branding and the car would be fairly unsalable without it. I knew of 2 or 3 RS4's that were ordered and then cancelled when they arrived by owners who were not warned by the dealer they would lose the S button and gallardo wheel if they ordered the phone cradle, and i have seen a couple of cars without sat nav or without the wheel hang around the dealer network at cut down prices for ages.

its generally reckoned that flat bottomed wheel, technology pack and 19" wheels are must haves for resale. i personally wouldn't touch a car without the wheel so i would disagree and would expect it will affect its desirability when you come to resell, since 99 percen tof other cars would have it and the phone kit is probably not even going to work with phones brought out in 3 years time.

I have got the 'round' wheel and it is a bit rubbish!

Perhaps when RS4 B7's 'get' to breakers yards, it would be possible to swap without any complication with the wiring harness?

A split decision here I think - Oh hell - its a tough one . The car is perfect in all repects - except one thing - the flat bottom wheel( or lack of ) . Do I walk away from it and start all over again with the trawl for another one or go with this , part exchange price is agreed , finance is all in place and take it . Agggggg !! It has the buckets / 19" wheels / tech pack & ...... comms -therein lies the problem

I'd pass on it; you're clearly not 100% happy and that's a hell of a lot of money to be less than certain about.

Check on RS246.com, I'm sure someone on there has had a flat bottom wheel retrofitted. I don't think it was cheap though about £1k IIRC.

fwiw it would not touch an RS4 w/o the proper steering wheel ans it is a lovely thing too.

if you are buying from Audi get them to change the wheel as part of the deal, their cost is going to be half the retail to you, maybe split it half each (they know the car will be harder to sell as it is and others will have same problem as you)

Yep I would go along with this, I bought mine and would have walked if it did not have the F/wheel, bucket seats are no problem with or without, but the wheel does effect RV, It's the "RS Wheel" and in times to come will effect sales even more as the car is no longer made.cool
PS) I had TDavant remove my ugly phone craddle, my phone still works great on bluetooth without it.
