So I guess the Chimaera isn't an old Rover SD1 in a cheap plastic mini skirt then? (not to mention all the other bin-end parts that it's been nailed together with...)

The TT *is* a golf in a tarts dress as it shares the same chassisplatform, as does the skoda octavia, the new beetle, the seat lean, the audi A3, the bora etc. At least TVR made their own chassis. The only real differences are the rear suspension (independant - shared with golf R32 & 4motion) and the steering rack (shared with R32). The engine is also a dull unit with no charactor and an appitite for coil packs.

Nathan - Chassis for Seat Cupra R? Audi RS3 Skoda RS? Seems like good company to me. How many manufacturers have asked to use Blackpool's flaky metal underpinnings?

It doesnt matter it the titty is faster round corners or not, what matters more is having fun at more sane speeds and this is where all the various versions of the golf fall down and cars like TVRs win, they are fun to drive slowly down a country road and you are more connected to what it is doing.

Ok chaps, let's play nice now. When the conversation descends to slagging each other's cars off and name-calling I think it's time to stop.

Audi RS3

What's that then

I have already said that it can be a good chassis (see R32 post a few pages back). Still a golf in a frock though

It'll never be a sports car IMHO, we'll have to agree to disagree. As long as you enjoy your car that's all that matters.

I’ll second the points made by JonRB and robp. Thanks guys….

Let’s all learn a lesson form robp and "Keep It Sweet" then there’s no need for Ted to bck anyone.

Dear oh dear

TTs are 'nice' cars. We had one before they were quite so common and we enjoyed ours.

But they're not in the same league as a TVR are they? They're not proper drivers cars - the heavy numb steering, the ponderous gearbox and the mute chassis see to that.

There's a 70 mile cross country run that I do regularly - you could do that quicker in a TT than in a Chim/Griff. Why? Because there are sections you can get through a lot quicker in the TT, and when the road opens up, do you really want to risk 90+ mph and a ban for the sake of a bit of dumb honour? A scooby or an evo would spank both cars over the same run, of course. They're not in the same league as a TVR either, as a whole package.

Compare apples with apples or stop wasting your breath, I reckon. The only thing TVR and TTs have in common is you can get a very good or a very bad one of either.

WTF!! Does it really matter. Jesus I have never read so much sh*t. Most of you slagging off here drive or have driven recently such splendid 'drivers' cars as a Nissan Primera, GTM Kit car and Vauxhall Astra!!!!!! Which no doubt gives the authority on anything and everything.

It dosn't matter what car you drive, if you look like a twat, you will look like a twat in a TVR, TT, Ferrari or Astra!!

It dosn't matter if your car shares parts with other cars, what car dosn't. Using 'parts bins' lets us all drive these sorts of cars at affordable prices.

I loved my TVR and I want another, I also love my TT. It suits my needs. I do quite a few miles at the moment and I need to know that I'm going to get where I want to go. The are different cars for different occasions. The TVR was fantastic in the dry, great for noise and oversteer, the TT is fantastic through country bends and will leave the TVR for dead in the wet.

Both fantastic cars for different reasons. The world would be most boring if all things were equal and we all loved the same things.

Anyway my dad is bigger than your dad so there

This joke of a CAR, - Estate agents and Hair dressers only, (No driving skill WOT SO EVER REQUIRED) could never live with a PROPERLY drive V8 TVR see www.ebroadcast.com.au/ecars/Audi/TT/TT.html
for how fat these lardy machines are - well over a tonne and a half with only 225 bhp even a 4litre / 1.07 tonne Chimera on a dry road (so what if it can't keep up in the wet - should not be driving like a Knob in the wet) should Destroy them let alone a 4.5 or 500.

500 275 bhp / 1.070 tones = 257bhp/tonne
hair dresser car = 225 / 1.69 tonnes = 133 bhp tonne
That is even before you take into account the stump pulling Torque of the V8's

The only car that I've thought "fcku me" was the sodding Skoda Octavia RS and had to drop into fourth at a ton to keep up (okay so I wasn't ready for him to try and get away like that!), eventually passing at some 150 mph going on to my fastest top speed of 162mph (and yes this was in Germany!), once I cleared him I guess he lifted off as he suddenly went backwards very quickly.

Wait a minute, isn't the TT the same car?!?

Just a little addition to the parts bin thingy, I seem to remember that a certain Italian car company that has a black donkey on a yellow background used to quite frequently raid the Fiat parts bin to get bits and pieces for their motors. Don't hear all that many complaints or derogatory comments about that in the long run though.

True, but I would rather have a F355 made of Fiat Punto parts than a TT made from a Polo!

IIRC Aston came under serious fire for using too much switchgear from Fords costing a tenth of a nice new Aston. So in the Vanquish all the parts on view are bespoke, but they still lurk around out of sight!
Would not bother me!

Oh dear Jellison...you boys and your big plastic toys! The 4.5 Chimaera is only 0.9 seconds quicker 0-60 than a 225BHP TT so the power to weight ratio actually means jack sh*t. Just count to a second in your head..... the slightest wheel spin in a TVR will loose you most of that advantage from a standing start. And if it's wet your ed (we do live in rainy old England you know, not California). The torque of the V8 is also equally matched by the TT's turbo mid-range. Get to the twisty stuff and the Chimaera is history. Over 120mph? The TT is rock solid and the Chim feels very nervous, edgy and light on the front end (Done both on the autoroute to Le Mans in the last two years, so speak from experience). I thought we'd got rid of all the 'Audiphobics' on this thread and decided that all cars have their merits and at the end of the day it's up to the individual to choose. I've owned a Chimaera for two years and it was great fun (nice big V8 soundtrack), but I couldn't live with the niggly problems, build quality and attention to detail (I mean, what the hell's going on with the centre air vents that blow against the gear lever??). And by the way, my mate's girlfriend has just bought a Chim 400 and guess what? She's a hairdresser. And here's a thought, and be honest...if the TVR Chimaera still kicked out 285BHP but didn't have the V8 sound (think S2000), would you still buy one and put up with all it's shortfalls? Naah.
