just bought a 98 R-plate A6 v6 td Audi
anyone got an idea why it cannot pull the skin off a rice pudding, cannot overtake anyone without a 2 mile run up , on a run no problem just has no power at all, can feel the turbo working but thats all.
Put your foot down and it feels like theres nothing there.
0-60 when it wants too ......
any ideas would be a help ...

More than likely an Air Mass Meter. This may not throw any codes, but anyone with a vag-com can check actual air mass vs expected air mass in the measured value blocks. You will see a huge difference on these figures. These cost around 80 quid from GFS.

MAf is a candidate but if its a progressive one then the turbo viens get sooted up and it renders the turbo next to useless. The 25V6 is a piece of cake to get cleaned turbo sits in the middle fo the V easy to access. So any good indy should do this for you relatively cheap, or if your handy but cleaning fluids but its just soot petrols dont suffer this as it burns much cleaner.

Any fault codes coming up?

seen this as a thread a lot recently. i do believe the 2.5V6's suffer from this more regularly and seems to be when the cars get to around 80-100k.

Going to start with the air mass metre , then try a few other things as suggested .
i only bought the car as a stand in till the insurance company pay out on my r32 golf that was stolen just before xmas , i miss the power but i`m kind of getting fond of the audi, in a strange way 72k miles from new and i`m the second owner .

Same thing as my car.

When I first bought it it was slow in every gear, struggled on hills etc.

Then with a new air flow meter it felt like a rocket in comparison.

I must have been running half power if that. Could not top 84mph.

Just the air mass meter.

At first I got it chipped before I bought the AMM.

It made a very very slight difference. but then got even more sluggish over time.

Then after the AMM it was like a brand new car. The traffic light grand prix was winnable again hehe

I second the air flow meter. I had mine changed on my audi a4 1.9tdi and it made the world of difference.
