There is an official VW connector available from dealers. I don't know for definite if it allows ipod control from the head unit. One dealer says yes the other says know.

I had that fitted the other day, yes you can control it through the head unit. CD1 is playlist 1 etc - but track names don't show and also you lose the CD played functionality...

I have the Dension Gateway 300. Approx £150 and easy to fit yourself. It retains the single CD function, with the CD button on the head unit toggling between the single CD and the iPod. Quality is much better than FM. I keep the iPod in the glove box and control it from the head unit, but you could have the iPod in a cradle on the dash.

What functionality did you lose?
I had the ipod connector fitted at factory and my CD still plays cd's and MP3 cd's - can't see as I've lost any functionality.

Do you have the factory sat nav? My cd player just now ceases to work as the cd selection buttons now control the play lists...

Intrigued!

Seem to remember that the 'CD' or 'mode' button (was a while ago now) toggles between ipod and CD??

Ok right - not got Satnav.
My mate has it on the Passat with the Ipod connector and can only play a CD if he takes out the satnav DVD - which seems a bit bizzare as the man from veedub didn't tell him about it!

Has anyone seen an iPod integration with the standard head unit that shows track names and albums? My GTI's VW iPod integration works fine, but I miss the extra data - shoe horning the functionality into the CD changer feature of the headunit is a bit less than I expected for the cash.

Couldn't agree more - seems like they decided they needed one to keep up with other manufacturers and only had £5 left to play with.......

Although it's a lot better than my old iTrip FM transmitter.

I have the Dension Gateway 100 (also allows bluetooth and cd rention options) Cannot fault it with my 80GB Classic.

Avoid the XLINK's on ebay - I sent 2 back due to persistent beeps/silent periods.

I asked the dealer about this they said that as there was only one connector on the back of the head unit they could do it but I would lose use of the cd multichanger. ( have sat nav so need to keep the single slot for that)

Did buy a new iTrip on ebay for £10 and its okay but not great

Anyone know of a better solution ?
