Hope someone can help

In my manual for the A3 it states that the recommended oil is VW spec 503.00 or 503.01

In Halfords Castrol 5W-30W is £45.00!

The question I have is I have also seen Texaco Havoline 5W-40W Which is vw 504.00, I have heard that this supercedes the previous numbers and is ok to use, is this correct?

Your local friendly TPS centre sells 10/40 fully synth for about £12 for 5 litres or Synta Gold 5/30 fully synth for about £27 for 5 litres. I use 10/40 on my 1.8t which is fine as long as you change every 4-5k, like me.

Where do you live and Ill get you TPS centres number.

Why change so frequently? What oil is correct for annual / 10k service intervals?

There is a Longlife brand of fully synth oil which is designed to last 20k plus for the new car longer service intervals, this is £30 ish for 5 litres.

I change every 4-5k because I run a GT2860RS turbo... better to be safe than sorry!

I have found a TPS in Stoke, so will try there. Thanks again

UPDATE

Just called them and they say they only supply to the trade and I need to go to Audi!

The 504 is the one you want - supercedes a few others that used to be really confusing. Usually buy Mobil 1 from Halfords. last time it was around £30 for 5 litres.
