Just a quickie. I'm going to have to get a "sensible" family car. Got an X5 at the mo. but the tailgate is too high for the dog and it's due to be changed this year.

Instinctively I looked at another BMW having had a string of them but TBH I fancy a change and Audi is next on the list. Knowing nothing about them what sort of car should I bee looking as a comparison to a 5 series 530/535d? Looking for plenty of torque with decent performance but reasonable economy. All the toys, ie. nav/TV are a pre-requisite. 4WD would be nice but not essential.#

Thanks

A6 3.0tdi would be the one you're after then. Go for quattro as there's little point having an audi without.

Too right!

If you like pressing buttons, the UR Quattro is not for you. If you can sacrifice creature comforts and a bit of boot space, and you haven't got £90,000 on tap for an R8, then the Quattro is THE affordable step towards driving Nirvanha! Okay, owning one might make me biased, but I've owned a lot of things in the past, Stags, Audi Coupes, Golf GTi, to name a few, and the quattro puts the biggest smile on my bonce.. Sod the boot space, I'll gladly do 3 runs rain, snow or shine to get stuff from A to B!

+1. Brilliant car, power & economy and a vast dog area in the Avant. You know it makes sense!

I have an A4 3.0 Diesel quattro avant. Its a tiptronic auto, something like 400 lbs /ft of torque and 250+bhp. Quattro 4 wheel drive so always feel sure footed. Nice comfortable drive, all toys and no matter how hard you drive it still 35+ mpg.

Only down side is that its a heavy engine in the front so can understeer.

I love it and think it is a great family car, albeit not the largest estate car but still well sized.

Can highly recommend having a look.
