Ok, 1st things 1st, Hi all 
1st visit to the VW/Audi forum. Many questions to come and I hope I'll be able to contribute a bit too.
Just bought Mrs Bud a 1999 'V reg' 2.4 A4 in metallic grey. Bought on a bit of a whim really, she'd set her heart on another E46 BMW
However, this A4 looked really clean and TBH it wouldn't have been much cheaper if I stole it. 
So I had to have it.
Ok, my question - Car came with a 3 button remote flip key, a normal key and a valet key. The normal key wont open the boot, the key just wont go into the lock for some reason. I really wanna get another remote key. A bit of googling and I found out the reprogramming procedure.
I was gonna buy a new remote and a blank key blade on Ebay, they're cheap enough.
Do I have to get a remote that is the same part number exactly or will any 3 button remote work? Possibly the newer design asymmetric ones?
The one I have has the code 4D0.837.231.A
Also, the central locking pump only unlocks the drivers door and the fuel cap. I was gonna buy a used unit and just exchange the pump innards to avoid reprogramming keys again.
My unit is part 8DO.862.257.E but on Ebay theres lots of 257.A or 257.G units. I was hoping the pump inside was the same so it didn't matter which I bought, Can anyone confirm this please?
