I will tackle 99% of tasks on my car myself, and could do the rear suspension bushes on my A3 at home, however know what a sh!t of a job they can be - scrabbling about on your back with hammers and sockets that are close, but not close enough, to the right size. There is a tool that I have seen on the internet that goes through the bush and pulls it out. Looks cool, but is quite pricey, and something I'd only use once.

My two options, therefore, are to find a local recommended VAG indy that will do the job for me for a "sensible" amount - With the tool and a ramp, anything more than an hour labour is a p!ss take. This is the reason for my post. Anyone recommend one in my area?

Second option is to buy the tool, do it myself, then either stash it in the toolbox forever, or ebay it to someone in a similar position to me.

Might be worth talking to Neil Garner at Kemble Airfield. He fitted my Haldex PP controller and is a race car specialist - a former Formula 1 mechanic and a very sound bloke.

Thanks for that. I'll give them a bell at lunch time. With luck, anyone with the tool should be able to turn the car around in an hour.

If this wasn't so steep, I'd buy one and do it myself.

Tried that number now on several occasions. Bored of trying TBH. Obviously not interested, or rushed off their feet.

Any other suggestions?

Cheers Fidgits. Dunno how I overlooked that link. Car's booked in their Melksham workshop next Friday afternoon. Got a reasonable price, and effectively doing it while I wait ... I'll actually sling my mountain bike in the boot and head off across the fields for a couple of hours instead smile

^^^^ what he said.
They have been around a long time and have used them several times on various VAG cars over the years.

Perhaps they can tune-up your mountain bike Mat while your waiting hehe

I'll second that. I took my S4 in to them this week to have a faulty wheel bearing replaced. Fast, efficient and very reasonable labour rates.

Is there a greasy spoon nearby to pass some time?

If I'd have done the job myself, I'd have tapped you up for the parts. An R8 courtesy car could have been nice though wink

Got it done in Melksham anyway. More than happy with the service ... and they diagnosed my ABS fault too, so know which sensor to attack.

Whilst the much quieter rear end is a welcome break, the "loose" rear end feeling has been lost through body roll. They really had got that bad. I'd actually quiet got to like that frown At least corners can be taken a lot more "effectively" now though.
