Hi all, the Audi seems to be feeling a little under the weather at the moment, it's idling at 600rpm, the gearstick looks like it's fitting and the car wobbles from side to side. When outside, the engine is making a burbly throbbing sound rather than it's usual smooth hum. When blipping the throttle the rev counter needle jitters about, and it was very jerky at low speeds. But once going it was fine, joined the M20 near Ashford and floored it in 4th and it shot off in it's usual punchy manner. At that point the fuel needle was just about to enter the red area, but we filled it up and restarted and it was doing the same. 107mi later we're back home and when turning it off, something went 'ka-tink, ka-tink, ka-tunk'.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be causing the problem?
It's an 05 Audi A6 2.4 6spd on 56,000mi
Thanks in advance

Oh right, I'm at college in Godalming, the RAC man who came to recover the car said that all 6 cylinders were firing and it definately wasn't the Coil Packs and the fault code came back as something to do with the Camshafts. It's a pain in the jackson having no courtesy car, I need mine to get to Godalming and back every day, Mum needs the Audi to get to work 3 days a week and tomorrow Dad needs it to take one of his contractors to High Wycombe to survey a new job. If it had to break, it could have at least waited another month until we got Mum's new car... Long distances and/or motorways in my car really aren't that nice... Hopefully the A6 will be back with us in full health once again on Tuesday evening or Wednesday...

Took Dad to pick up the car today,
despite the RAC man telling them it was a faulty cam chain sensor and not coil packs they decided to change the coil packs only to find that it was not the issue, and it was in fact a faulty cam chain adjuster solenoid, they changed a faulty clutch pedal switch too and changed oil filter and flushed the engine (filters and oil 2months old) Grand total of £535.89
Dad's just a little (jokily) miffed that they've cleaned it, now the damage to the rear bumper is visible!
