Buying 4.2 Quattro A8- Am I mad?
Discussion
Thats ex Audi UK I think.
NAV+ is a nice to have, its got the essential rear blind option, on the whole it looks mint I have to say.
I prefer the Sport (best seats ever) personally but they're all great great cars.
This is dangerously close to me

I do like the Sport too, and if there was the choice I would have one. However there don't seem to be that many 4.2s around, and again I haven't seen many with Nav+ which I really like.NAV+ is a nice to have, its got the essential rear blind option, on the whole it looks mint I have to say.

That S8 is also temptingly close to me. I do have a bit of inbuilt distrust about dealers selling this sort of car for quite such a reasonable price... Possibly just because they tend to be a bit better at covering up major mechanical gremlins than private sellers! I would be a little concerned about the apparent wear on the driver's seat too.
I think it's mainly the fact the seller is very local to my mum and has clearly looked after the car is what outweighs minor niggles about colour and trim. That and the V8 bark

Because, oddly and childishly, pressing a little button and having a rear blind appear, for a child of the 70s where electric windows made you go 'ooooh' and were without doubt a mark of entry to the middle classes (even more so if there were rear electric windows) is delightfully satisfying.Plotloss said:

Must admit, very little excites more than the sight of those 4 electric window rocker switches appearing in the diagonally angled, burwood facia of a MkIII 4.2 Sovereign's front compartment armrest console.
So brilliantly unergonomic: I recall sitting in a chum's pater's car (he was a proper car dealer from the Daley School) in the summer of 77, wearing the old man's sheepskin in blistering heat just to test the aircon.
I never recovered.

That S8 looks lovely - a lot of car for the money. I'd LPG it and have a non age related plate and be very proud of myself!!NAV+ is a nice to have, its got the essential rear blind option, on the whole it looks mint I have to say.

Car looks pretty straight but the "Barry" alloy wheels and numberplates would make me worry about it's previous owner. Possibly just someone with minimal taste.Knock a couple of grand off and you'd be doing alright. Low mileage too!

Will try very hard not to crash it then... MoT has now been done ready for collection... Can't wait! Owner has helpfully included half a tank of fuel to ease the pain somewhat
Pics!
