Seat Leon Mk1 - Boot lock - Help Reqd

Solenoid is firing off the central locking, but boot lock is failing to open. At present to ensure the vehicle is secure I'm manually having to lock/unlock the boot on the key. This is a royal PITA

In addition it all feels a bit stiff and I'm worried about further damaging the mechanism. Any pointers? Any experience of this problem on here (Golf MkiV and First gen A3) - I guess all VAG cars use the same bits?

Does your rear wiper work properly?

Its commom on MkIV Golfs for the wash wipe pipe to split off of the unit and drip water onto the lock mechanism, causing it to eventually fail.
