That looks quite cheap to be fair.
What's the deal with the Audi Extended warranties on these? Is named component cover sufficient?
I'm looking at a 50k mile 2012 black edition, Audi want £760 for full or £539 for named component - both are much cheaper than BMW used to want for my M3 (although, I never bothered with that to be fair!)
Is warranty necessary? If so, is Audi the only one worth looking at?

I just paid 15k for one with slightly less miles and no Audi Drive Select, but most other options.
There's a lot of crap out there for sale.
Having had silver card for the last few years, wouldn't buy another one.

What's going to happen if I don't code it, will I die in a ball of fire?
But seriously can someone explain what the coding does, won't the alternator just charge the battery depending on the voltage/load just like they always have?

I'm a bit old and cynical about this sort of thing, reeks of dealer money making B.S. to me,
I know battery technology is changing all the time, and if I was swapping to say a lithium battery or something odd, then yes tell the car, but all I've done is swap one 110ah lead acid battery for another with the same spec, granted the internal resistance of the new one will be lower but if the car was clever enough to adapt to to old battery then It should do the same for the new one?
I don't have VCDS sadly but I do know someone I can borrow it from, so I may do it if needed. But for the time being I'll monitor the battery voltage and see what happens.

I bought this car nearly a year ago – sadly it’s time to let it go.
The seller says he bought the car last year in the first line of the description. ATM said:

My S4 is back & gearbox is ok but still getting a little bump down to 1st gear but not all the time? Off the the Beulieu meet tomorrow so I will see how it runs after a good run.
Also the Audi technician, Jason, told me that the map did not show up on their software so Audi are not aware of it. That could be handy if you have an in warranty car you want to map.
Its a little lower now as well after its latest visit to MRC.

This is in an auction which is running now and looks cheap at £10,495.00 BIN until you read about the clicking noise from the gearbox. How much is a new box for these?

More than that BIN price of the entire car is if you get it from Audi, £10-12k, and several grand even if you go for a repair through one of the few third parties that can fix them.ATM said:

Personally, I would be nervous buying a 100k mile S4 with a suspected gearbox issue. As mentioned above a new gearbox could be more than the car's worth.
Obviously you can never be 100% certain that all's good and the budget needs to increase but I'd be looking for something with less miles and no 'known' gearbox faults, preferably with some kind of warranty - which is, in fact, exactly what I bought.

Well I put a deposit down on a nice Black Edition this evening. Excited to get it now!
I was thinking about arranging an inspection, are there any specialists around West London/Slough/Oxford area?
Not sure if that's a service that Fontain offer, but it's certainly their neck of the woods. https://www.fontain.co.uk/contact-usI was thinking about arranging an inspection, are there any specialists around West London/Slough/Oxford area?

Whoops, that was me. I really need to start checking who's logged in on my computer before posting. Thanks for the advice, I will give them a shout.

Are they normally reliable?
Umm not exactly, if you're in the market then I'd do some research and make sure you're aware of the issues and risks before making the jump. A Google of "audi s4 mechatronics" will give you a good starter for 10 and there's several that have had issues earlier in this thread. Earlier cars in particular up to the facelift ~2012 seem to be prone to Mechatronics and clutch pack problems and although my old 2012 car was a facelift and in fine health, the concern of a future failure and the £1k/year Audi warranty to alleviate that concern was one of the reasons I decided to sell it last year.So I've picked mine up and the immediate lack of USB port has annoyed me.
In my BMWs, I've always used iTunes on my phone to listen to music.
Bluetooth works ok, but it's not the nicest experience and rinses the battery. Are there any options where I can get proper "iPod integration" by connecting my iPhone via USB?

Does it not have the MMI interface in the glovebox?
AMI : I thought that should be standard on Black Edition cars. What year is it?You'll need an odd little cable that plugs into the glovebox unit. The problem is it's very much designed for leaving your phone in the glovebox (short cable, can't shut glovebox, etc...)
I tend to either use the builtin jukebox or have the phone charging from a charger in the armrest cubby.
So... just had the dreaded call from the wife : tyre pressure warning light has come on, and she's sent me a delightful picture of the rear n/s tyre with a screw through it near to the edge...
its not going to be repairable, so the question is do i need to replace only the tyres on the back axle... or do i need to do all 4...because quattro and all that??
cheers

If the other 3 are OK, I'd just replace the punctured tyre. If the other rear is getting close I'd change just the rears, and so on... silentbrown said:
