Humph - got halfway up to the garage (having covered 40-odd miles) to receive a phone call telling me they had sold it, despite me having supposedly reserved it yesterday madrolleyes

Seems an optimistic price for a pre-facelift car. Spec definitely isn't great but it has the carbon inlays, which I like -and if you're really after a manual there's probably not much choice.

Pushing the budget out to £17K gets you plenty of choice of decent spec later facelift cars with DSG, like this one https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/202...

£565 VED is going to hurt, too...
The VED prices hiked up on model years of 2011 and onwards. So if you can find a model year of 2010 or earlier then you only pay £325.
Not for manual you won't, they are all band L trust me I've been paying it for the last 6 years mad
Mine is a 2009 manual and I'm only paying £325 per year.
Before buying mine I looked at four others, all manual, ranging from 2008 to 2010 model years, all were only £325 per year on VED.

I think the EU/UK changed the emissions in 2011 which forced similar CO2 levels up in to a higher price bracket. So all S4's regardless of manual or auto grearboxes became high tax from then.

Couple of current examples on Autotrader :

I paid £300 last year for my S4 auto...

It must just just be the manual Avant's that are in the band L. I know they are only just in by a couple of g/100km mad

Well this is sub-optimal....

Noticed last week that the temperature gauge isn't sitting at 90C when moving - there's a needle's width below 90C. What's frustrating is that the thermostat was only replaced 3 years ago (by Audi) when I had a warranty on it. I paid £250XS but they said at book rates it's well over £1k as there's 6.5 hours labour to pull the supercharger before you can even SEE the thermostat!

Done some logging of temps with VCDS and I reckon that rather than failing shut, as it did last time, it's now not fully closing when it should so takes ages to get up to temperature and then fluctuates when driving.

Found a 30 minute video showing how to change it, but not sure I've got the patience! I thought it was bad enough for a thermostat to fail at 50k miles/6 years, but guess there's plenty of scope for less life for it....

Not long had to pay to replace the same part on my Golf GTI, which is similarly inaccessible, and also prone to leaking very early in the car's life.

Oh and a new windscreen on the S5 for the 2nd time in 2 years. Really should just sell one of the cars!

I’m looking for a manual Avant.
Well that's the end of my S4 ownership, It's moving from the east coast to the south coast as I type.
I hope Searider enjoys it as much as I have, definately the best car I've ever owned smile

Can't easily tell the scale, but is it part of a floor mat popper? Looks like it's rather too big, though...

It's about the size of a coke can.
Have no idea if it even came from my car but I can't see where else it could have appeared from!

I'm not so sure that's from the car, it's looks like it's got grease on it and I can't think where it would be needed in that area.

Looks like the thingy that sits in the top of a pot of grease; you push it down and a small amount of grease squirts through the ring.

Hi all! first time Audi owner having been an Alfa owner for the past 8 years. Picked my S4 Avant (manual - big tax eek ). Based in Norfolk and had a full service after picking it up, Clive Atthowe here in Norwich gave it a clean bill of health which was a welcome relief! It then went straight off to the body shop for a front end respray having have a bad job done previously!

Few more jobs to do but I think it compliments my GT nicely! (3.2 V6). Love the power and ease with which it covers ground! Had a nice clear run through the Peaks last weekend. It appears to be well equipped with B&O, adaptive dampers, drive select, start stop and sports seats.
