Just fault reading and resetting
The free version of Carista does fault reading and resetting, the Pro version does a lot more now. e.g. customizations, service operations, battery registration.

I "bought" the Pro version for ~£12 about 8 years ago, before it went to subscription, and I appear to have a lifetime license smile

Cheers. It looks like Carista and Toque are both subscription services.
Maybe but Carista works for basic fault reading/resetting without any subscription, I have an Elm module (ebay) and have used Carista on non VAG cars such as my Son's Clio and have reset cylinder misfires, air flow and catalyst errors with no bother.

Never tried it on the S4 because I've got VCDS for that and, obviously it is much more comprehensive.

Cheers both. That's useful to know. I'll get a dongle ordered.

Talking of wheels, has anyone found a set of 17s that fit? I'm looking to fit winter tyres to mine and want to keep my options open.
I tried some 17's just to stand the car on while I was having the wheels powder coated and they wouldn't clear the brakes on the front.

Carista
If you keep an eye out on a certain auction site can get a copy without the subs.

So I'm told whistle

Interesting, mine has 19" wheels so no problems but I previously had an A3, 3.2 quattro which had the same size front discs as the S4 and had 17" wheels which cleared (but only by a few mm) the calipers, must be using larger calipers on the S4 I suppose.

Having read a bit about this, it seems very dependent on exact wheel design as clearance very tight. Also will depend where weights have been fitted. I think I've decided to just make life easier and find some 18's rather than gamble.

A5 Coupe 5 spoke 18" wheels are cheap as chips, and plentiful. Good for keeping clean in winter too....

My winters with Michelin CC2s - not masses of clearance, as you can just about see.....

Well my S4 has just arrived. 2011 car with a few nice extras (not sure how many of these are standard). DSG, B&O, Sports diff, B&O, Heated front and rear seats (the kids like that!), Tech pack with nav, adaptve cruise, auto tailgate, keyless, seletable steering.

Nice history with the car. Three gearbox oil changes, the first two on schedule, the last one just a short while ago and all other regular culprits seem to be covered too. It's had the small pulley upgrade and remap so goes along quite briskly.

I want to do some bits. Winter wheel set. Carplay. Repair stone chips on trailing edge of front arches + a paintess dent on the bonnet otherwise bodywork is lovely. Need to remove wind deflectors too.

That sounds really good spec! ACC is really rare (oddly I’ve seen more with manual gearboxes fitted with it!)

Only thing you’re missing really for ‘perfect’ avant spec is the panoramic sunroof, but that’s love/hate anyway as it needs looking after and can squeak

If you look under ADS ‘individual’ drive mode configurator I presume you can see steering and diff options, but not suspension?

I’ve been watching this car for a while. Thought this was the one you were getting. Seems to have a very good spec and had it gone on sale six months down the line, I imagine I would have beaten you to it! Hope you enjoy it and do let me know if you sell in the near future…

I admit a sunroof would have been nice, especially as these all seem to have dark interiors but as you say at least one less thing to worry about. DAB would have been nice too though carplay will probably stop me caring about that as I tend to just listen to podcasts.

No adaptive suspension. Does seem a strange omission when the other two dynamic options were ticked. Again though, less to worry about. I can just lie awake worrying about the diff and gearbox instead wink

smile It's rare that any cars I'm after ever come up locally but coincidentally of all the cars currently for sale, this most suited what I was after and nice that it was only an hour down the road for once. I shall let you know if it doesn't work out for any reason but hopefully it will be here for a little while.

That looks lovely, and a great spec. As above the Drive Select "Individual" menu should show Sports Diff and other options. IIRC, selectable "Steering" is just weight, but "Dynamic Steering" also alters ratio and the jury's out abut the usefulness of that.

You've got Hill Hold Assist option too, from the lower pic.

Handy. I was watching this and another Audi in Dundee. I’m in London! Ended up getting an A6 an hour away, so shouldn’t complain…Seems like a good spec and history for the price. Hope it serves you well.

How’s the remap? Did they say who did it?

I can't recall who did the map but I have it written down somewhere. I must admit, it's tempting to get this done again just for peace of mind as I don't have a RR print for it. I don't know what sort of cost that is or where best to go though.

I mentioned earlier about picking up an OBD scanner. Just seemed a prudent move. Anyway, I discovered that ELM327 bluetooth dongles are not compatible with iphones. So I bought a wifi one instead. Carista recognises it but says it is incompatible with Carista diagnostics. Torque app requires me to pay to even try connecting something.

The app that I downloaded by scanning the QR on the scanner's own packaging is for bluetooth connections, not wifi. Got to love chinese stuff! Any ideas?
