Hope someone come help, trawled the 'net but not much help.
I need to replace the sidelight bulb, but manual says dealer fit only. Anybody know what needs to be done, or do I need to spend 100 quid to get the dealer to do it.
Thanks

Not had to do it on mine yet, but on my old A4s you had to undo 4 Torx bolts and slide the headlight fwd, then you could get to all the bulbs. Having said that, some were accessible without moving the headlight if you had slim hands and removed a couple of bits of air ducting on one side.

Depends which engine 2.0 not to bad, V6's and you need to take out the air filter or move the PAS reservior depending which side. That style A6 the lights dont come off unless you remove the bumper, so you have to strugle with the lights in place. Its not easy but take the cover off the rear of the lamp and you have access to the bulbs.

Book time on a 3.0TDI is 0.7hours so should be £70 for a bulb change + £10 for the bulb.

Most dealers will do them for a fixed fee, much less than the official time. Worht a phone call if you cant figure it out.

Thanks for the replies , its a 2.7TDI.
This is the first car I've owned which required a dealer fit bulb change. I would have thought it should be a requirement for bulb changes to be a roadside change with a basic tool kit, but having to dismantle half the engine bay seems to be the norm these days.
Would still like to do it myself instead of paying somebody else to change a light bulb!

Which side is it. If its drivers side, take the airbox out.

If its passenger side unbolt the PAS reservior and move it as far as you can with the hoses still attached.

It can be done DIY style, you just need a few tools and a lot of patience.

Most new/modern cars are like that now, nothing is easy. If you get a chance, look in the engine bay of an RS6, takes 2 hours to get to the back of the head lights.

I suppose you can almost forgive an RS6 that, but a run of the mill repmobile really ought to be simpler to do. I know it's not just Audis, but thinking back to not that long ago, the Vauxhalls I had were all incredibly easy to access, having been designed to get to the bulbs without any tools whatsoever - just unclipping a cover, and you're in. IIRC my Volvo V70 T5 was the same - unscrew the back and change the bulb.

I never really checked, but does all this messing around moving lamp units affect the alignment? I suppose there must be some additional adjustment that is not affected by simply sliding them forward.

Just had to bring my 2008 A6 Quattro in for a simple bulb change, not. Unbelievable that this cannot be done roadside. In some countries it is a legal requirement to carry replacement bulbs, for that very reason. To replace broken ones. Surely manufacturers should be forced to change, by law,,!!
