Audi A4 (B7 Chassis 2006) 1.8T Fuel Line Leak, anyone else??
Discussion
Hi all!
I have had a major fuel leak on my A4 1.8T Avant (2006).
I first called the AA out upon finding the leak and they said it was a problem with the fuel filter connectors (quite common apparently??). This is obviously very concerning! As any type of fuel leak is.
When they looked closer at the issue in transpired that the leak was actually on the fuel line out of the fuel filter which been rubbing against the chassis! Which consequantly caused a mamouth and very dangerous fuel leak.
The AA guy done a very temporary fix to this to enable me to drive the car to the local Audi dealer, to which I did.
This appears to be fixed now (picking the car up today) but this is a VERY concerning issue seeing as the car is only 4 years old!
I have done a little bit in net research and it transpired that the issue has also occured in the B6 chassis models.
Has anyone else had the same issue?
Cheers!

Not wanting to upset anybody, but just out of interest, what difference does it make if other people have had the problem.
Perhaps the OP wants to establish if this is a common fault before tackling Audi or maybe contacting VOSA to suggest Audi have a saftey related issue on this model that may require a full recall ???Marcus, exactly!
I done a search and it appeared that B6 chassis had a similar issue and also when I spoke to a specialist, it was said that fuel pipe rubbing against the chassis has occured before.
I am looking to build a case for a complaint to Audi and include VOSA on this. This is clearly very dangerous and I urge anyone with this model to get it checked out.
So anyone with a similar issue please let me know!
What concerns me aswell is that the car passed its MOT the week before at exactly the same main dealer where the work was just carried out! I appreciate it may not have been leaking at the time of the test but the car passed with NO advisories!
I simply do not expect this sort of thing to be happening to a 4 year old car with FULL MAIN DEALER history.
All in all a very concerning safety issue on an otherwise brilliant car.

Bit late to the party here, but wanted to post up that exactly the same thing happened to my B6 2003 A4 Avant 1.8T 190 at 40k miles. Again, not Quattro. Fuel feed pipe to fuel filter chaffed on the chassis above the filter, opening the pipe up and spraying petrol all over the underside of the car. I drove from Manchester to Carlisle with it leaking and the underside of the car was soaked. This was 250 miles after being serviced by a franchised Audi dealer and also the car has a full Audi main dealer service history!
I have just had the same problem on my 2005 A4 Avant 2.0T FSI Quattro.
A sudden and major fuel leak casued by the fuel line rubbing against the chassis. I took the car the next day to an independent garage specialising in VW/Audi who advised me that the car was too dangerous to drive due to a major fire risk from petrol being sprayed on and near the spark plugs. The garage told me that there has been a safety recall on S4's as a result of a similar problem.
Mine was the first A4 they had seen with the problem, but they had heard of others in the trade. The fuel line was replaced by them the next day and they have done a simple 'fix' to stop the new one rubbing in the same way.
It seems to me that Audi should be doing a safety recall on relevant A4 models given that there are significant fire risks involved here. I often drive around with my 5 year old and 1 year old kids in the back of the car and plenty of other people with drive with young, elderly or disabled passengers. I would hate to think about the risks associated with a major fire in the engine compartment. Audi need to sort this out.

Same car, same issue with mine - 2004 model 1.8T 190 Avant - fuel line rubbed against the chassis and holed it. Luckily mine was parked in the driveway when I noticed the strong smell of petrol from it. Not good!The_Gza said:

Not good! This is interesting as I mentioned to Audi that this was a possibe design fault and that a fuel line should not rub against the chassis and I also mentioned that this was a very dangerous situation to be in with your family in the car due to the high risk of a fire, the usual answer from Audi customer services was go get it fixed at your nearest dealer as they could not do anything about this and really were not interested.
It could be worth contacting Audi again as there are a few cars here which I believe share the same chassis and of similar mileag and age with the same fault, doesn't sound like a one off to me.

Dammit, wondered why I was having to fill up my 99 A4 Quattro so often. Have just dicovered mine is leaking. Seems to be just in front of the rear driver's side wheel, but still need to go down and have a look at it.
Anyone know if this is something I can fix myself, as I'm not exactly flush at the minute.

Audi A4 Avant 2.0T, built end 2004, reg March 2005, 120000 miles. Fuel pouring from position just forward of rear offside wheel after journey from S. Yorks to Sussex. RAC completed temporary repair to chafed through fuel line that had been rubbing on a rough part under bodywork. First search I find is this thread and I wonder how many others there must have been, and are about to rub through. Stopped last night by a firework display - may have had a lucky escape! Going to dealers Tuesday armed with these previous examples as evidence of design fault.
