Mine are just going off for a full refurb next week but a thought occurred to me, is there a 'better type of tyre fitter' somewhere. I will be removing the tyres before they go and will just use the local tyre fitter but the machines they use often scratch the rims / basket where it clamps the wheel. It would be heart breaking to put some new tyres on after the refurb and have some Muppet take the paint off when they put on the tyres. Are there places that cater for the higher end alloys who wont grip the wheel in those three 'jaws? By the way Russ..............looking good.

Very good question and was one of my concerns. Had my tyres fitted by the local garage and they didn't mark the rims.

The place I take mine to are a very professional outfit. The two owners are the "old school" type (wear overalls not oily jeans and a T-shirt) and both worked at a TVR garage before starting their own tyre business. The clamps on their machine are made of plastic as to not damage the wheels.

I use my local Stapletons...... the manager supervisors every bit of the operation from the car going in, onto the ramps, to the tyres going on and off....... But I guess that is just him, and not company policy.......

I think you just have to find someone local you can trust

You see some of these high end custom guys spending 8k on a set of 20-22' mag and carbon rims, I can't see them going to Kwik Fit. I'll have a call around and as you say, try and find someone who sounds as if they can cater for something that is not run of the mill. Also, with no power steering I need to have them balanced within an inch of their life, so you don't feel anything back through the wheel. Peter

Hello Russell,

The wheels look great, but I think that I may have some replica OZ Racing stickers hidden away somewhere. These would finish the wheels off and look a treat. I had them made up as exact replicas of the originals that I had on my wheels.

Ooooohh... I'd like one of those, please (the three other wheels still have their original stickers and are in good nick)... smile

Thanks for the offer Bill but I'm going to leave the stickers off these. Makes the polished finish easier to look after. Thanks anyway.

Looks like you were lucky to make it out of that gypsy site

Wheels looking good, but you need a proper engine in there ;-)

Russell Mc - I'm hoping you're still on the Forum. How are your polished rims looking 6 years on? I'm looking for some one to polish a set of rims so I'm wondering if "The Polisher" is as good as he was in 2012. Has anyone used him recently?

I've got a set of OZ Splits with Elie at Voodoo Motorsport, along with a set of Speedline Splits. He's a little more local to you in Flaunden, Herts.
For anyone looking at polishing or full split rim refurbs, I can highly recommend his work and attention to detail.

Is he next door to BJV? They did a set of Tasmin lattice wheels for me last year. Nice job.

Russ sold the Griff and moved down to the West Country.
