Tyres for my Griff!

Hi All,
I'm looking to get some spare tyres for the Griff, I have a set of Toyo T1R's on std estorils at the mo and I have a full second set of estorils ready to be refurbed, so what tyres would be good to put on this second set? I'm thinking of the 888's for summer use, does anyone have any experience of these? i.e are they downright dangerous during an unexpected rain shower? I was initially thinking of another set of T1R's so I can refurb the originals but this seems like a wasted opportunity to have two tyre options to easily swap over. What would others do?

T1Rs were a good design in their day, but things move on. I've just fitted a set of these on my Griff that I've had lying about for a couple of years (date stamped 2014) & can't believe how poor they are. In fact I'm contemplating refitting the R888s as they weren't that bad in the wet & great in the dry.
Alternatively, have a look at Uniroyal Rainsport 3s, I've fitted them to a couple of my vehicles recently & they're very good as a road tyre, you will possibly have to tell your insurance people as I'm not sure if the speed rating will be correct. The guys in the TVR speed championships really rate them too. Oh & they're a really good price on Camskill's website.

Unless your likely to do serious trackdays at breakneck speeds you'll probably find the Rainsport 3 a perfect allround tyre. Great side wall absorbance and a lovely soft tread. Grippy in almost any conditions.

Rainsport 3s are available in 15" if you go no wider than 205mm.

and they are W rated, most other sources are only V rated for the fronts (15").Cheers chaps, Jesfirth can you tell me what the R888's are like? I don't do track days in the griff at the mo so are the 888's a bit overkill on the road?
I've got a 500 Griff so think I need the 225 width at the front rather than 205. Any further options other than an additional set of T1R's?

What a price!!!For road use only, I'd forget R888Rs. What's a good compromise is the R1R, but not sure if they're still available.
I run AD08Rs on mine all year round and I am very pleased with them. I liked the Toyos but always felt the sidewalls were a bit soft compared with the OE Bridgestone S01s. The AD08Rs work very well on road and track. R888s are only really to get you to and from a track, they are not good in the rain and noisy on the road. R888s do not come with much tread from new either 5mm from memory. AD08Rs come with a full 8mm. You cannot beat R888s on the track however, once you have heat in them they are unbelievable.

Rainsport 3 on the road will be your best choice for grip in wet or dry conditions.
These tyre's have been engineered to get grip in winter conditions,,,, so on a light car such as ours they have an abundance of grip in the wet or dry.
I put these tyre's on my Chim a few weeks ago and in 2degrees ambient temps with salty damp roads I was playing round an isolated roundabout and there was more grip than say T1R's in the dry. That's unbelievable but true! I know my G force settings get my drift Jes and I know for sure I've never had so much grip and load up on the car at those slow speeds without sliding off before.
This is more a bonus for me as I'm now more into a compliant car to save the bouncing electrics over our insanely bad roads etc so I've been looking to make the car softer,,, these tyre's above shocks/springs or joints has given me a car thats more civilised on a daily basis. Soft tyre on a light car,,,, job done

My non-PAS 500 has 205/55/15 and 245/45/16 with standard Estorils. Currently have T1Rs.
I like the sound of the Rainsports too, it looks like I'm fine for the fronts at 205 but not the rears!

Seems extreme but I got so fed up with the cars attitude over localised bumps etc on various road based tyre's I've been close to quitting, I don't track my car often enough and use it in the rain so having a track( summer ) tyre is not practical.
I went upto 17 in rims years ago and on a 40 profile tyre,,, it's not been the best decision!

I've gone for T1Rs again
Ordered rears only for now as the fronts can wait a while, £180 fitted for the pair from local tyre place so can't really argue with the price
Blackcircle was actually £103 per tyre delivered to the same place, and a different local place I've used before was £117 per tyre so it's worth a quick comparison
