With a requirement to replace the inner arch heat shielding soon, i'm presuming i'll need to remove the exhaust manifolds. In so doing, what are the best/value for money options to help reduce the heat sink into the caf?
1. Do nothing - cheap but ineffective
2. Wrap exhaust - anyone with experience/pictures
3. Other cost effective coating?
Any advice would be appreciated.

I know a few people have used Camcoat and are very happy with the results. They are much cheaper than the original Zircotec guys.

'Cost effective' is relative.

How often do you want to remove the manifolds to redo the heat shielding?

I like ceramic coating. Gives worthwhile improvement and takes up minimal space - Think how fiddily the manifold bolts are going to be with 5mm thick material in the way?

Plenty of players in the market.

http://www.performance1coatings.com/ - I've used these guys and not had any issues to date.

http://www.hi-speccoatings.co.uk/ - I've read good things about these guys but not used them.

If I were to remove the stainless manifolds on Wendy again I may well add a few wraps of cloth to the sections that run next to the chassis just as a belt and braces approach. Not fully covering them, just a short length next to the chassis rails.

Plenty of people have just wrapped the manifolds though. I think you need to asses the condition of them once they are off. I have been told the 'properway' with mild steel manifolds is to clean them up. Wrap them. Then spray them (over the wrap) with VHT paint. There are plenty who haven't done this and the manifolds are still intact. Indeed, I think Mr Philpot has simply wrapped his manifolds and many moons and S Tours have past.

If the manifolds are past it then a set of ceramic coated stainless set is a worthy investment.

You could always wrap the chassis with reflective tape. Although not much defense against heat soak.

Nope, not me.

I did acquire some wrap a few weeks ago but they didn't get done pre-Scotland (and may never.... wink )

I'm only going to do the heat sheilding once....I hope.
I like the idea of ceramic. About the same price as some wrap too (that's what I meant by cost effective)
We'll see what the statd of the originals are. Might be able to get my hands on sone srainless manifolds. The rest of it is up for a quieting (eh mike...loud isn't it)
Cheers for the info

'Tis a bit .. wink

Mine's certainly not so loud but does "drone" between 2000-2500 RPM. May be over the Winter I'll drop the exhaust and see if it's been messed with or just blown all the wadding out?

If its a 500 and your removing best to remove the smaller catylists in the manifolds you dont need them check the y piece as well for blockages i have mine running with the pre cats removed and ceramic coating did this when i got the heat shielding done runs a lot cooler , Im though wether thats down to the pre cat removal or coating its hard to tell combo of both probably and a worthwhile mod . Still running with main cat in y piece .

A friend with a 4.3bv precat turned up today at a mini meet. They have just fitted an ACT cherry bomb exhaust and y piece. Sounded very nice. Was previously sleeved and a bit droney between 2.5 and 3.5k (iirc).

Anyone tried the DIY ceramic paint? I've seen it for sale in the us with a 360 degree spray tube. For doing the inside. Apparently you cure it simply y running the car for a set number of cycles. I bought a spare set of manifolds and a Y piece to give it and a wrap a go. The commercial coat places seam to be pricy for an experiment.
