Should it be possible/has anyone managed to fish a cable from the battery/fusebox area through between the wing and inner wing to the headlight void rather than running through the engine bay?

Next question:

I could try and work it out from a wiring diagram but easier to ask, when are the heated mirrors powered? As soon as ignition is on?

On a "normal car" I'd expect them to come on with the heated rear screen but obviously that's not an option on a Griffith.

I did it on the drivers side for a friend, used a coat hanger straightened out to hook a wire in.

Rain interrupted play today but I'm guessing that's how the screenwash pipe gets down to the front?

Always wondered about that - my 'S' has wires going to the heaters in the mirrors, anyone know if they actually go anywhere?

I recently installed a new siren and so needed to install a new cable through the near side inner wing space.

Secured some nylon cord to the dash side of the old cable and pulled it through the grommet by the siren at the front of the inner wing. With the nylon cord now within the inner wing tied the new cable to the dash end, but also tied a second nylon cord at this point so that while feeding the new cable in the second cord enabled it to be pulled back if it got stuck, which it did. I realise that this method would involve you feeding the siren cable back again but it is doable with patience.

Hope this makes sense!

Best of luck

This access panel might help as it is above the battery/fusebox...................

Pre cats dont have that access panel.

Yes the ns wing you can easily get wires down it to the headlight area. Theres no blockage.

The os not so easy. My os appears to be blocked made up with fibreglass so unable to pass anything through.

Having said that the windscreen washer tubes must pass through it so maybe there is a very small access hole. Problem is its very difficult to see.

Okay, I'll have another go but initial attempts my "fish", a piece of mini trunking lid, kept hitting something?
Probably about where you can see a faint join line where the car has had a new front end sometime in its life. irked

No existing cables (as far as I can see) to get me started. It's the alarm siren cable i'm trying to get out of the engine bay, it's gone a bit "crispy" near the exhaust smile

This above method is the best way of doing the job. As long as you have cables already routed through any enclosed areas they can be used to add more cables

Result we're through!

took a bit of prodding and poking, some of that expanding foam stuff in there but cables now fished through and a piece of nylon string left through there in case ever want any more smile

As suggested no hatch as pictured by Hedgehopper as mine is an early Pre-Cat but I do have a metal plate on the off side. Looks "original" because it sits into a slight recess although the motley selection of poorly fitted pop rivets could be a later addition?

Talking of poorly fitted, I obviously had the cover off under the wheelarch, I suspect my 2 year old Granddaughter could have made a better job of the silicone sealing wink

Alex,

Did you install that access panel on your inner wing?

My 96 500 certainly does not have one. A handy feature though!

Not actually a picture of my own car, but I assume factory fitted. Not quite sure why it's there but very useful.

The late Chimaera dont have this panel scratchchin but the nearside inner wing is a pain to run cable down frown I did to run a cable into the nose and pushed through some expanding foam also in the corner of the inner arch to outer wing
