Tyres for Best Grip

RS3 on the Tam and Sag. Great for 99% of driving for 99% of users.
No one on here is in the other 1%.
Your not wrong there No one on here is in the other 1%.
I was in the top 1% in the world for f1 lap times around Silverstone online one year,, I was something like 200th though but then I used no driver aids at all! and I had to set the car up. Not easy at all.
Ok I’ll get me coat
Safest tyre I’ve found for all year round security has been RS3
Cars almost normal, so much so I’m considering power mods.
Wheel spin for me was very easy to induce in 3 gears on bumpy roads on T1R let alone if it was wet.
I can barely get wheel spin in first gear now. There’s a quick assessment right there.
I’ve done the obligatory brake tests and stopping is now something I enjoy instead of holding my breath.
I have very accurate brakes so there’s nowhere for the tyres to hide and they work well and keep dipping in for longer as I attempt to get to lock up. Stopping distance has been reduced.
Jez what gear are you pulling on that straight!
Is that 4th your into ? Impressive
You do have some extra downforce I believe
Something about your boot doesn’t look standard to me

I am not worried about how long they last, the annual mileage is / will be tiny.
I am concerned about how well they grip, particularly in the wet and cold. The impression I get from previous posts is that the T1R is not a great tyre in aqua-planning conditions, which puts me off it a bit, even though I know I would love the dry grip.

The first winter I got Tamy we were driving back from my BiL on New Years Day in torrential rain with loads of standing water on the M25. Idiot swerves infront of me and I had to swerve out of their way into lane 4. No issues with grip. Just as Tamy settled we hit a huge, deep puddle. Keep straight and true trhough it and came out the other side. That was 225/40/18 RS3 all round.Just my 2p worth-
Our TVRs don’t do many miles as a general rule so I’d get something soft & grippy that won’t kill you if you get caught out in the wet.
The Toyo R1R fits that bill, however, you might struggle getting them in the relevant sizes now.
The Uniroyal Rainsport 3 is a good tyre but I find it a little ‘squirmy’ with the standard tread depth, so I get mine planed. This has the effect of stabilizing the tread block & IMHO they get better with wear anyway.

In total agreement. Our TVRs don’t do many miles as a general rule so I’d get something soft & grippy that won’t kill you if you get caught out in the wet.

Luckily I’ve used mine through two winters now which has the effect of hardenning them a bit. Imho
I decided 6 months ago when they are down to 3/5 mm tread pattern I’ll put them on my spare wheels and have a good set of track tyres
