Any experiences yet with Powers billet clutch - I vaguely seem to remember it was physically lighter (by 1.5 pounds) than the AP '500' clutch but heavier to operate?

It's £540 plus release bearing etc so going to be very expensive!

Maybe so but someone’s producing one for these cars !
What happens when they don’t bother!
I presume they are factoring in extremely powerful engine specs so built to cope with all but the most powerful I’d expect which is why it’s heavy to operate would be my guess.

Yeah, that's my concern. The price as such doesn't bother me - as we say in The Netherlands 'better too expensive than not for sale'...

I believe Barrie Piper was sent one of Powers billet twin plates to try and it lasted 2 minutes. He does have 600lb/ft of torque and a heavy right foot though. Its probably good for most of the uprated TVRs out there but not the extreme examples.
My combination of an AP racing pressure plate and a John Eales ceremetallic friction plate has lasted years of drag racing abuse over 500 bhp with zero slippage but it is quite heavy in traffic.

You might as well go the whole hog and fit a twin plate McLeod.

I’m having Powers do a full 4.5BV rebuild, new clutch and rebuilt LT77, plus while the engines out I’m stripping everything out of the engine bay and replacing everything that needs it (or looks a bit shabby). So expecting a large bill fir that lot on top of the high purchase price I paid for this pre-cat 18 months ago, it’s going to be eye watering expensive once complete eek

Evening all.

I put a 241mm AP clutch with 50% updated pressure plate and 50% updated drive plate in my 450BV. LT77 box.

Much like other's feedback on AP units, very progressive, smoth and not grabby. More than up to the job and a pleasure to use. Good value at £140 ish if I recall correctly.

It was a single plate. Powers don't do a twin plate for the RV8.

I think its a case of that was then and this is now not helped by the fact there are some greedy s out there that when something becomes in short supply they exploit the situation and up the dollars , brake servo's being the perfect example not including Hanns in Europe wink

Hi all, my clutch is getting a bit long in the tooth after 14 years (500 / T5) and I thought I'd buy a replacement now and arrange fitting later. Given the AP appears to be unobtanium now what is the preferred option? I understood that TVR parts (Racing Green) supplied something suitable from Borg and Beck but it has arrived in a Helix box, which I specifically thought was a bad thing for pedal weight mad?

I'm sure my 500 has been running a 400 clutch for all this time anyway but guess it isn't possible to check that from the access hole on the bottom of the box?

Any help much appreciated.

Not all the Helix are heavy , but speak to V8 Developments , John Eales Engineering etc before pulling the pin

I bought the RG 500 helix clutch but have yet to fit it. I too was worried about it being heavy so I’ve bought the RG larger bore (Tamsin) clutch slave cylinder.

It is a bit of a concern, the labour bill doesn't make it something to do twice!

Does anyone on here have the RG/TVR Parts 500 clutch?

I called John Eales - AP original available @ £944 delivered! eek

BTW another option is to get your existing clutch plate relined.

Someone on this thread mentioned this option sometime ago and coincidentally I was watching Car SOS this evening and they did the same to a MK3 cortina clutch
