I’m looking a replacing tyres on my Griff. Basically I have had the car 9yrs with very little use as it’s the weekend/summer car 😁. Am I correct In saying tyres need replacing after 5 or 6 years. Need advise on where I can get hold of some toyo tires all round.

Thanks

Vince

I've found it makes a big difference if the car has been garaged or not. Tyres degrade more quickly in the UV light experienced outdoors. Also, NOT using them causes them to harden. My last TVR had tyres 7 yrs old and the tread was plenty but grip awful. The front tyres on my current TVR when I bought it were 17 years old eek .They were deadly.

Generally, the advice is 6 years old but I wouldn't make it a hard rule. Depends on the condition.

My theory is basically better safe than sorry, so I am going to replace all tyres 👍. I just need advise on where to obtain tyres. I look after the car and service it regularly even with little road use and so on.

Just been looking at replacing the tyres on the Chimaera for the same reason, plenty of tread but not much grip. I've been looking at the Uniroyal Rainsport 3's from either Camskill or tyreleader. Annoyingly they've just jumped up in price at Tyreleader by quite a margin.

A friend with a 5 litre Griff on the standard 15" and 16" wheels has used Yokohama ADR08's for a while. I now have a set on the 17" wheels on my Chimaera and they are excellent in all weathers and on track days as well thumbup

Another vote for Uniroyal's RS3, certainly compared to T1R.
I have little doubt AD08r would have a more direct feel though if you want to spend the extra, probably wont be quite so good in the wet but should be ok.

What size Rainsports are people putting on the standard wheels?

I'm in the market for some new tyres and was going to try the Rainsports but struggling because they don't do the same sizes as I have fitted.
I have 245/45/16 on the rear and 225/50/15 on the front

Closest I can see are 225/50/16 rear and 205/55/15 front

That's exactly what I ordered from tyre leader in the end. There wasn't a lot in it for price and TL seemed to have slightly better reviews.

Note price doesn't include fitting so I imagine another £40-£60 on top but going to have my wheels refurbished as the paint has a few imperfections.

Uniroyal Rainsport 3 205/50 R16 87Y (Passenger summer) 2 Full price including VAT : 123.36 £
Uniroyal Rainsport 3 225/50 R16 92Y (Passenger summer) 2 Full price including VAT : 143.60 £

I think for the 15" Camskill was slightly cheaper if you need the 205 55 15 but they're about £20 each more than the 16" version.

My Griff is being delivered with new Toyo's all round, I'll report back and let you know how I get on.
