Alarm not responding

My '94 Griff 500 has stopped responding to the alarm remotes. I've got 2 remotes with good batteries but neither does anything.

I think from memory it's a Gemini - was this standard fitment ?

Is it possible/likely the alrm has failed, and is it likely to fail further and disable the car ?
