I believe that a Blackpool company called TVR or something like that do replacement catches and the latest ones are pretty strong. They have dealers scattered round the country...

I'm with Steve on this one, Mole Valley fixed mine, for the princely sum of £2.00 plus VAT, however the labour cost was swallowed up in last years service bill, I am told it will last longer than 5 years now.

After one of my supposed friends slammed the glovebox on my car and exploded the latch (almost took out his eye with the spring), I replaced it with a new one from a dealer (about 2-4 quid). This then kept falling out of the dash entirely so I jammed 2 bits of cable tie up each side of the latch. It's been like that for 2 years and worked perfectly. I think the new latches are a bit more robust.

I also keep a post-it note pad in the glovebox. Can be used to write down insurance details, registration numbers and for wedging down the side of the glovebox to hold it up if the latch does break. Can be adjusted to any width by removing pages.

My whole catch and holder fell out about a year ago.
I wrapped a thick elastic band around the holder and lodged it back in the hole.
It has worked perfectly since, opening and closing as normal.Being rubber it probably takes up some of the vibration from the car.

The latches TVR use are made by a company called Southco (part number E4-10-202-10) from a TVR dealer they are £6.81ea + VAT. However the UK agents for Southco are called Alexander Industrial Supplies in Witham Essex 01376 500303 and they supply the part for £2.40ea + VAT only problem is they have a £30 min order charge. Anyone want 13 glove box latches ???

Finaly done my glovebox.Using a central door lock actuator you simply press in exactly the same place as before and the box drops down. Press back up and it locks. Being on the ignition key means it is safe when parked with the roof down.

The actuator is merely a motor that shoves an arm out or in. It needs a relay and of course the switch to replace that nice plastic latch. A couple of holes drilled and it sits inside the glovebox, out of sight of course. Until i can source the direct replacement switch i can not be precise with costs, but i would say around £25 which i know is a lot for a replacement latch, but it is so great i cant stop playing with it.
