Can anyone shed some light on this for us. The red light on the dash keeps flashing on and off throughout each drive. It doesn't stay on for any longer than about a minute. We check all the bits and pieces that we think we should before we go.

Should we be worried or do they all the Griff 500s do this?

p.s. does anyone know where we can get a spacesaver for this car?

If you mean the red led between the speedo and rev counter then I had a similar problem, in my case it was the main cable from the battery to the starter which was rubbing on the bearbox and eventually shorted. Impossible to find until it finally died. You should also be aware that in the book it will tell you to get the car to a dealer if that light comes on.

Of course you might mean another light

Thanks guys for the help. Yes, it is the red light between the speedo and rev counter. Does this mean we can safely ignore it or act on it?

Should be the ignition light. Should go out. If not the alternator or electrics are dead. Definitely not to be ignored and charge the battery as the chances are it is not being recharged at all and will go flat.

Many thanks. I know this is now appearing that we're really thick - and that's because we are!

Car starts first time every time. Recently had it checked out and told car running really well. All other electric bits (that we know of) and pieces seem fine and light can go from on constant for approx 1 minute to intermitent flashing to not coming on again for rest of journey.

keep an eye on the voltage,it should be around 14 volts, when your alternator dies this'll drop to 10/11 and less as you slowly kill the battery. Mind you I managed to get 25 miles to Offord when mine went without harming the battery

Sounds like either a loose connection somewhere(earth maybe) or like someone else said prehaps the wire is shorting out somewhere hense causing it to flicker on and off.
Although if it was an earth connection i would of thought you might have some problems with other electrical things???
Check in the Engine Bay as most stuff behind the dash should be ok(not many moving parts only steering rack so look near here).In the engine bay look for wires near moving parts or where things get hot.

Like the really sad people that we are we've had far to much beer to start mucking about with things that go bang so, we'll think up some other nonsense to ask you all meantime. (Al wants to know what the flashing flourescent blue light is - it is in the wiring behind the glove box. And before you ask - no we're not obsessed with lights - it's just we haven't got a clue. Honest thought, we are learning! )

However, we will go and poke around at the car in the morning.

Can't help you with the electrics but in regard to your other enquiry someone in the current (no pun intended) December 'Sprint' magazine (page 47..under miscallaneous parts for sale) is selling a spacesaver for a Griff 500 for £50 to include vinyl cover.

It is located beside the nanglespurgler sprocket, which is to the rear of the offside widget mount.

I don't think mine has got a bearbox, and I bought it off Davidd - the plot thickens....

yeah the 96 version was over the nearside widget and the nanglespurgler sprocket. also by the relay for the rear windcreen wiper motor

My husband managed to fix it using a glass chisel and left hand screwdriver. Thank god for new technology.

You lot really are quite, quite mad!

the red light in mine has glowed / pulsed for the last three years + 40kmiles...peninsula says all a/c cars do this.

blue light...if its by fans speed control its also a/c.
push fanswitch to turn on / off.
