Yesterday it took me an hour to get out of the car park in Bluewater, during which time I had to use the heater blower to demist the windows in heavy rain, so I got another cooking. This prompts me to raise, again, the timeless issue of Griffith heaters.

I asked Tower Vierw Race Services to check when they serviced my car, and they confirmed that the recirculation control is stuck on recirculate - so it is obviously going to cause heat build-up. Apparently, to fix it requires a new control box costing about £600! (Is this the rectangular box under the radio?) I don't see much point in a recirculation control in a car that will be used open top whenever possible, so would be happy to have none. Does anyone know how I can fix this so it's on fresh-air only, without having to fork-out a lot of money?

The unit is a rommed microprocessor and the whole unit has to be replaced. No user serviceable parts. It may be possible to strip down the air flaps and force the flow but it is not something I have heard done.

Dont think(dont quote me on it) you will have one on a 93 Griffith.
But bottom left Aliminium Knob on the Centre console is the Air recirculation button.

This owner could do with a little less exclusivity, and a little more coolness in the tootsie area!

If the controller is knackered cut the two wires, then putting 12v across the motor will turn it either in or out, then stop when required. Why i could knock something up! I have repaired mine before when the fan stopped working.

Does your 93 Griffith have the extra fan control under the drivers side dash board that shoots out cold air only in the drivers footwell ??

Mine (1993) has an extra fan on the drivers side, wich is on the left where i live.., wich blows cold air on your feet and trough the two vents on either side of the radio.

Oh, and i have a small vent just in front of the pedals that i can open and close for extra ventilation

Mine must be a "special" version..

The "specials" seem a bit hit and miss. Some have the extra cold air blower, mine doesn't. I reckon there must be a giant shed at the Blackpool factory with all the left-over bits they forget to fit. It does have the louvre vent, 'though!
