Master Cylinder Question

I have recently noticed there is a slight leak of the master cylinder where the pushrod comes out to the clutch pedal.
Now, after reading the Bible i know it is possible to change the pushrod if you put a new MC in and the rod is a different/wrong length.
So my question is:

Is the seal gone where the pushrod comes out and if so can it be change or is it a Whole MC change.

PS annoying thing is i had the clutch changed i little while back and it wasnt leaking then

had my MC changed early this year on service. £47 + vat at peninsula...thought it was ok.

You can buy a seal kit for 8 quid. and do it whilst lying in the footwell. Its fairly easy apart from putting the circlip back in. Took about an hour but i was taking my time. The kit has instructions.

The external rubber bit is not a seal just a cover. The real seal is inside the unit.

that's the way I do it .. trying to change the m/c on your own is a real pain, and not worth it. I've never had a seal change go wrong yet so you save massively on both time and parts.

Any idea where from, Rover dealer prehaps.

Does the MC need taking completely out or can it be done buy lifting the rubber cap SH was on about.

HHMMM seems i jumped the gun a bit.

On Further inspection today when my feet were where my head should'ave been on the head rest, i found that the stuff coming out was more like grease that had been put behind the rubber sleeve/cap and i think when getting hot and become runny and came out.
Probably a little overfilled when the clutch was changed, not a bad thing i suppose.

Alls well that ends well
