Help! I run a 96 500 Griff, and I am just removing an exhaust manifold for the 4th time in 16000 miles, to replace a leaking gasket. ( as I currently do 20-30,000 a year, this is becoming a pain! ) I regularly check the bolts, and have tried reinforced gasket paper but no joy. It is normally the rear cylinder that fails. Has anyone had a similar problem, or know of any sealent or gasket material that may help.

There was a thread under Chimaera where a chap used stainless steel gaskets - worth a go.

My Cjimaera has had both manifold gaskets replaced twice now in the year + that I have had it. Some of this has been done under warantee and some I've had to pay for. If I recall right, the approx cost from Fernies was about £300 per side.

Sealant material -- I've found exhaust putty can be very effective. -Manek-

Had same problem with both my griffs - around £250 a side (TMS) Last time it went in four months ago) they said the gasket design had changed and they fitted new ones? Sounds like a design fault to me! Anyone else experienced similar?

Yep, that was part of the reason my last set had to be changed. I think the old dodgy ones were orange and they stopped using them. One of these had gone on my car so at the service Fernies changed them both, but split the cost with me. I think this was a good deal for me.

Prices must be falling, TMS quoted me £95 a side but I did it myself.

Had all mine replaced with stainless steel one's, the bill came to £295 but I also had other stuff done to the car. I dont think it would come to over £200.00.

Yer they are local to me, I'm based near Great Dunmow but I drive to Guildford to get anything done to the griff, the prices speak for themselves.

They are not a TVR main dealer but my car is 5 years old so I'm not too bothered about that. They only work on TVR's and the mechanic has a griff too. I would rather take the car down too them as I know there work and I know I can trust them with my car plus they appear to know every fault there is with them. The prices are very good and therefore I tend too get him to do lots of stuff in one hit.

I was under the impression from their servicing quotes that they were a bit pricey.....I have a Griff and work in Harlow, could be useful to me if they are good

David in the Garage at Guildford (well Compton nr Guildford) has looked after my S3 and now Griff(pre-cat). Just had a major service, exhaust manifold sort out and replacement of SS manifold gaskets (£25 for all four)-as I'm sitting here looking at the bill.

What ever hes done to the exhaust - it sounds amazing!!

David is fair and well priced and has attention to detail - but he's a victim of his own success - ie overworked!! If you have time and can give up your tiv for sometime (he had mine for three weeks)then fine

Can't recommend him highly enough.

Wot a rip off, according to the TMS Griff parts list a minifold gasket only costs £1.90, I cant believe they take that long to change. I think some people have been had good and proper there.

Saturn 5,

My gaskets were stainless steel replacements. The standard "TVR" replacements had been on my car for less than a year before they split so I think they are a "rip off" at £1.90 each. I'll let you know how long these gaskets last, hopefully it will be longer than a year?
