Well the output shafts are different diameters and lengths which is an interesting problem and if you really want a higher top speed you will need a huge power hike from the engine. At 6000 rpm a Griff will have about 200 bhp only as the power falls dramatically. At 160 exponential laws start applying and the power increase needed is huge.

So just changing the gearing doesn't do anything as it is about right for the engine as is. Cerberas and Tuscans have better drag coefficients and their max power is about 1000+rpm higher which means they have the power at the revs to get to those speeds.

A little clarity - according to the bible the early T5 boxes had a 0.73 fifth - later this was changed to 0.8!

I juts took a look at the power curves from Power Engineering last year when Mark and Tim worked on my Griffith and I've got 260lb ft at 6000! So does that mean I could do it? Rich...

Have seen 165 on speedo a number of times once with the roof down however the front does feel a little light...It still felt as if there was more to give however cant remember the rpm due to concentration on the autobahn. 94 Chim 500

Right, my initial posting was about the "ultimate" top speed of the Griff, and whether it had a bit more with higher gearing.

From the postings it seems that many Griffs have gone to the limit in 5th - which would equate to around 165+

With higher gearing and a lot more courage what could a Griff reach?

About 165.1

Top speed is determined more by available BHP and drag more than anything else. As I said earlier, the V8 is running out of puff and running higher gearing will make it worse.

A tuscan box fits straight in a griff with a mod kit that the factory can supply .I think this has a higher 5th and gets rid of the lincage system to the stick.I think it was fitted to the last griffs
