Griffith cooling system

Guys, just wondering if anyone can help me out with the following query.

The cooling system of my Griff 500, a 94 model, has developed a couple of faults, namely:
·Fans do not cut in via the thermostat, I have to use the override switch.
·Only one of the fans is working.

I’ve checked all the fuses, which are ok. I’ve established that the fans are ok (swapped supplies – work ok).

Any ideas?

Sounds like a faulty otter switch in the rad (common problem).

The usual test for a failed otter switch is to remove the wires from the switch and link them with, say, a paper clip, this should cause the fans to come on, showing it be the otter switch. Rich...

Just a thought, if it was a faulty switch, would that not effect both fans?

I know you've checked all fuses but does the horn work?

One of the fans and horn are on the same fuse.

I know this sounds daft but I had the same (one fan on one off)switched the car off and turned the fan by hand all working ok after that,good luck

At my last service I had one non-working fan sorted - turned out the wiring had deteriorated, and was replaced.

I had a problem with one of the connectors thats about a foot along the wiring from the Fan, it had deterioted quite badly and was not making a good contact and the Fan wasnt allways coming on, and sparked if wiggled the connector.
A bit of WD40 and hey presto works OK again.But has black tap around now to keep from getting wet.
