Does anyone know if you absolutely have to change both front tyres or if there is still a lot of tread left on the other tyre then you can just replace the one ?

How about you change both Then sell the other as a part worn, sure someone would snap it up for track use.
As long as the tyres are balanced dont think it should make that much a difference, makes you wonder though why one is that much more worn than the other??

Don't absolutely have to, and if one was nearly new you might just change the other if it had a puncture or something. But in terms of getting a bit more life from a part-worn - wouldn't advise it, better to get into the habbit of changing the tyres in pairs or fours to ensure equal grip characteristics all round.

Guys, I forgot to mention that one of the tyres is the wrong bl00dy direction. I have two left tyres Car bought some time ago so no come uppance if you know what I mean). If the left is not too badly worn can I just get a new right one and keep the left one or should I do as Peter says and get two new fronts and sell the two left ones as part worn. I'll have a look at the depth of the tread and see how far gone.

Also forgot to mention that I'm in the City Region track day at snetterton on Monday. Whats the likelyhood of not being allowed to participate if they spot one of the tyres on backwards Will it upset the handling as I really don't want to knacker a new set of fronts on a trackday ?

If the tyres are part-worn then presumably they both have some life left in them - worth maybe £50 each then perhaps? If so, and assuming there's nothing else wrong with them, it would be worth getting your local tyre fitter to swap the tyre round the right way, probably only cost you £10-15.

Do Snetterton have a workshop who could do this for when you arrive?

I doubt it. Go to a local tyre fitter and get them to change it before hand. Managed to swap the tyres round on the 520 once and it made a big difference to the handling. L on R and vice versa.

Just realised....I'm being stupid ...must be the excessive sunshine today ! No sounds of hear hear from the back please !
SO basically I just get the local tyre fitters to take the tyre off the rim...twiz it round...and plonk it back on ? Thanks all, feeling a little sheepish.

ACtually, on the subject of tyres being swapped...

If I take it into a tyre fitters, do I have to tell them where to jack the car up or will they try to jack the car up on the outriggers.......

Do I have to make sure they use the main chassis rails ?

I was always told that the out riggers (i.e the ones which surround the passenger sills, weren't that strong. I always go for the main (square) chassis tubes next to the transmission.
