Went to top the oil up this morning and the thing won't budge an inch, so the bonnet is staying firmly shut!
Frightened of pulling too hard in case the bloody thing comes off in my hand!
Can't find anything about it in the bible.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Edited to say: Got the bastard thing open...but now it won't close...

I had a similar problem when mine wouldn't close, it was because the release lever was getting jammed in it's housing under the driver footwell and wouldn't retract, I just pushed it back and now it's fine.

Cheers Joolz, given the whole thing a thorough going over (think the problem was both ends) and seems ok now. Not being able to get your bonnet open ain't funny though!

It might be the catch - it can get gummed up with old grease and dirt. If so, blast it clean with WD40 and a rag, then relubricate. This happened to me and I also found it worked better if I removed the bit of clear tube from the locking pin and swung the metal over-doofer out of the way so it doesn't get involved.

(May I please have a medal for giving an official name to a hitherto-unnamed part??)

Cheers BB, I can always rely on you! Reminds me of Muttley in Wacky Races - ah those were the days.

Sorry simpo, no can do since the over-doofer is an essential component in the glove box catch assembly. It's the part that releases the swaggle catch from the flocker lock.

Aha, but unless you've trademarked it or can produce the required evidence in an unopened registered envelope, we can fight it in the courts until we are both penniless. Tell you what, you can have 'swaggle catch' if I can keep 'over-doofer'.

Anyway, thou talkest cr*p since the glovebox assembly only comprises the swaggle catch and flocker lock. There is no over-doofer - which would explain why you had such difficulty!

(Sunday evening, wine and cheese, mmmmmmmmmm)

Fair deal, you know I've got no money at the mo after that purchase last week so I wouldn't last long in court with no funds anyway.

WD40...

Never been a fan to be honest but...

The boot lid on the Griff was getting harder to lift so admistered the WD40 to all pivot points and VOILA! The boot will now close under its own weight AND catch...never done that since new!

Worked this time...

Does that mean it won't stay open then?
