I'm generalising but you could get a very good (low mileage, well cared for grif 4.3 for that budget.

Or if you stretch a bit 98 spec (R reg) griff 500 ~20-21k from a specialist dealer.

98 grif's 500's onwards, given a choice, are very rounded cars, over the earlier ones(not a lot in it though.)

Of course, look at each car individually and consider relative merits. The owners can count for a lot.

You can find perfect older cars (with low or high mileage)

Similary you can find badly looked after newere cars(again low or high mileage)

Look back through the griff threads, there is quite a lot of discussion on this type of thing.

Hi...I've just become the proud owner of my first TVR after many years of drooling at 'em! A '96 N reg 500 and I'm in love! My budget was 16k. As I didn't fancy trecking all over the country, and didn't want to pay over the odds for a Dealer purchase...and wouldn't really know whether I was getting a good one or not, I decided to get in touch with Rob Ingleby who found one for me. And its a cracker....37k miles, new tyres, new exhaust, full MOT, dark blue with a cream interior, FTVRSH and it had a service 1k miles ago! And as its a '96, its got the revised spec. All for £15,500! So they are out there! Rob really knows his stuff...let me know if you need his number.

Simon,

I was pleased with the price they offered - it was more than some other places had offered me as a trade and the 'price to change' was better than I expected (feared).

My S3 never made their website - I think they had someone looking for one with a spec like mine (Mica Ruby with light interior) and it went straight away.

In terms of service, I've had a few teething problems which I expected on a car that had only done 23k miles in 9 years, but they have all been put right under warranty so I'm pleased with them.

Email via profile if you want more detail.

Cheers,
JSG.

Well there must be something in the air, I too after years of closet TVR watching have taken the plunge and gone for a 98S 500 from Adrian Blyth, hope to pick it up on Saturday.... have mighty respect for the power dished out by these machines and so will be wearing kids' gloves for a while..

Can't wait... it's Christmas again!!!!

Powelly,
That Griff is the Red one, looked good too, Fernhurst look like they got a similar one.

Almost ready to go looking, couple of weeks, can't wait.

Will try and hire one for the weekend first, any thoughts?

Do you reckon 19k,obviously without seeing to much of it yet and a bit of a haggle is a reasonable price for a 96n with 20K.

Sipow.

You do get a few flys attracted in the summer but not as many as you would think. I recon its just that they show up more.

I've had mine for 12 months it was for sale for about the same price as the one at D.G.s' but it had 34K on the clock, so to me the one you are going to look at sounds reasonable if its up together.

If you get it let us know. Maybe we can get them toghether. Now theres a case for powerfull sunglasses

Ruf 3

Mines GialloFly with navy half leather, navy roof, woven alloy dash, and yellow backlit dials. The Colour combo is great, the Griff is a great shape and stands out from the crowd anyway so why no go the whole Hog.

A top motor in a top colour... Men of Taste.

Cheers Dan
