A mad, bad Mini project

It's a shame as I was really enjoying the Binky and Escargot series. Does seem like they have lost interest. I know there was an update, but still disappointing. I wonder how many Patreons have given up.
Not sure how many have given up but they still have 3781 subscribers apparently. It's one of the things that make me reconsider my support, I absolutely love what they're doing and they're clearly a great bunch of guys, and I know it's their hobby and not their main job, but they're getting at least £7.5k a month from Patreon (at £2 per subscriber), I'd expect a touch more than a "sorry we're not posting much" update every two months...

I have worried that one or other is not very well... or is having some problems, hence the lack of updates. As said, they are a good pair of chaps and I really hope all is well.

It’s not bad on top of your existing salary is it? £45k each. They could use the money to pay retro power to complete the project.

I predict it will never be finished, because Patreon money.
Is it enough for that?I think maybe they are at (or maybe have been for a while) the stage where they should decide if they’re going to make Binky/YouTube a full time thing or not. They’re certainly funny enough and talented enough to do it full time, and I doubt they’d ever run out of project ideas.
It’s almost a shame I know what the next episode is about, because it’s made me lose a bit of interest in it. Making your own gauges is cool, but it doesn’t massively float my boat, and I’ll not be desperate to watch when they do release it. Maybe next episode will be more interesting for me.
At the end of the day they’re funny and engaging and they’ll always have an audience. God I’d love to see more of the escargot

It is a shame they have gone off the boil...something must be up but I wonder if we will ever find out what?

The going racing for less than a simulator was a nice idea, but was based on you having a fully equipped workshop at your disposal.
The content itself is great, nice and detailed for nerds like me.
It’s a shame really because the level of craftsmanship was really very good.
Designing your own gauges smacks of hubris. Don’t they have to independently tested etc?

could it be that one of the tv companies have picked this up and currently working to get it to screen and therefore not able to put any further content out via the normal methods ?
Be interesting to see how the Patreons react if they do. Haven't they already financed the production? Caddyshack said:
They said a while ago that it was now their full time work.

Oh interesting, I'd missed that. Yeah, something's definitely up. I guess maybe it is just a very Binky thing to not have an episode for ages, but this is the longest gap yet isn't it?It is a shame they have gone off the boil...something must be up but I wonder if we will ever find out what?

For a while it was great lots of content, but no end product.

Same, I love the fabrication and planning skills, and the fact that everything was done to super high quality. The going racing for less than a simulator was a nice idea, but was based on you having a fully equipped workshop at your disposal.

I must admit, and I expect many people to disagree with me, I'm not always that interested in seeing the process of them learning things. One of the reasons I watch them is to see the skills they already have and are very good at, in action. If I wanted to see a beginner do something I'm sure there are loads of other channels for that. I absolutely accept this may well be a minority view.
I definitely agree with those that hope it hasn't gone to TV, that would be a disaster. Not for the guys, I'd be happy for them, but I highly doubt the TV show would what I want to see in the format I want to see it, which Binky episodes in the past have always been very good at.

VAT at 20% to deduct + Patroen's fees. Assuming all on the £2 / month tier, and all in the UK, then monthly revenues potentially as low as £7500 - £1200 (VAT) - £900 (Patreon) = £5,350. Currency conversion charges are on top of that.
Not to be sniffed-at, but not much to pay 2 people and run a workshop, fund the car, etc.
Each video generates about 700k views, but hardly any content. Best estimate they're earning at the rate of about $5k pa right now. At their long-run average, they could do about $18k pa. At their peak? Far higher.
I can't see how this can be their full-time job right now.

They're not making £7.5k / month.
There's a higher level of subscriber too, but the figure is irrelevant. If I'm paying for something, I like to see what I'm paying for. Even if it's just a regular "this month in the shed" video that's not to the same quality as the rest of the binky content.Alex@POD said:

Either they're earning enough for this to be their full-time job, in which case it's vital that they're better at pushing out content more often, or it's a fun sideline in which case they could use the earnings to hire help to get content out more regularly.
