We did have to call out the AA to fix the closed points on the Lucas distributor, but we still had big smiles on our faces at the end of a long day.

I'm surprised they still had points on a G plated car! I would recommend your first upgrade be some form of electronic igntion, the Aldon Ignitor is a very neat little unit that fits entirely inside the distributor.

Upgrades - Oh dear, here we go. Takes deep breath and holds on to wallet.

If you send the dizzy to Aldon Automotive they will rebuild it, re-curve it to suit your engine spec and return it in a few days in 'as-new' condition. As Mr2Mike says, their 'Igniter' units are super. Completely electronic, but fit in as a direct replacement unit. Price: about £100 exchange.
When first I fitted a customised unit to my 1964 car, which still has to run on points to meet the regulations, the difference was immediately noticeable.
