Look.

MINI owners will never see that Mini in the eyes of Mini owners is the better car.

Mini owners will never see that MINI in the eyes of MINI owners it the better car.

So lets just play nicely eh?

As TD says, its an enthusiast thing...

Bet MINI isnt around in 40 years though

Given the tone in here I can see that a mini forum and a MINI forum would be more productive.

I'll do it some time soon.

Well done, Ted, ever the diplomat!
New MINI is, I guess, a fine and reliable modern car, as are virtually all cars of that size and performance on sale today. If it were a bad car no-one would buy it - there's just so much excellent choice. It's not for me, as I'm with old 'RedLion' inasmuch as I would go for a Golf GTi, or even a GTd, if I were in that market sector.
The old Mini is simply awful. It's noisy, unreliable, bumpy, harsh, has a relatively poor performance envelope, yet thousands of us just LOVE it to bits (and in bits is where it often is).
The two cars are so completely different that a comparison is not possible, so why try.

Please do quote the thread where I "call you all w*nkers" then? Oh yes, doesn't exist does it?
You'll find that it's the other way round - several vocal old mini owners slagging off new mini.

For me its simple you have the orginal mini forum for mini owners who lovingly cherish their cars and tune them up, spending painstaking hours to enhance the beauty of an already fantastic car.

And then have a seperate bmw segment for the people who buy the bmw because they like the look of the knobs inside and not because its a mini. Which it isn't anyway - Its a bmw.

I feel it can be summed up as follows. When Daewoo ripped of the astra shape for one of their cars, people didn't call it the daewoo astra or daewoo gte it was a f@#£ing daewoo because thats what it is. And the mini is a bmw and is bought by people who want to look cool but also want to semi jump on the 'i love mini bandwagon' but can't be arsed to put the effort into owning one and would never be seen dead in an original becuase the ride is just too uncomfortable.

Its not a mini and quite honestly its a disgrace that it has been named so - shame on bmw!! And if it wasn't BMW and for example Rover had made 'the new mini' they wouldn't be seen dead in them!!

Simple question to all you bmw owners who cherish your 'orginal mini's' so much

Q. Would you buy an original mini?

The answer will be no for loads of reasons. All the reasons you come up with are the reasons that we original mini owners love our mini's. We are a completely different breed so don't even try to say that you love mini's blah blah blah because its utter crap.

You love the stylish looking bmw with its maxi style and nice driveability, shiny buttons and bmw badge etc so don't try and jump on the bandwagon just because it was based on a mini. The bmw is nothing like a mini, its huge for a start. So you'd be better off on another forum because you just don't understand us. And have no interest in changing ball joints and uprating suspension. You bought your car, you like it and you don't want to change it, but for maybe a few decals or an aero kit. So why do you even need aforum to talk about it?? Just ring the bmw dealer!!

We don't have that comfort zone which is why we have a forum - to call on people expertise and experience.

I detect a hint of jealousy there!

This reminds me of the great jaffa cake debate of 1996! It's also a bit like a marmite thing

Yes, we have 3 old Minis and a new cooper S, but I have to admit since having the new one we rarely use the classics, probably because they are always in bits
