Bring on a separate new Mini forum??
Discussion
I can't be ar5ed reading 5 pages of this, and to be honest it wouldn'tb change my opinion at all anyway. Yes the new mini is a nice/good/different/entertaining (add positive adjectives infinitum) car, but other than the badges that have been stuck on it it is NOT a mini as we all know and love. It has nothing in comon with the 'Classic' (not my term) mini, does not have the same following or problems.
Different forum as it's a tottally different car. So there.

I have just been looking at my second fave small car on the forum "The Golf"
The space between the MkV and MkI isnt as big as the mini but at every change it has had a following and it has always been very different.
So why so much moaning from people about changing the mini. I hate the look of the new GTi Golf but it drives great so I love it but wouldn't have one. But you don't see MkI owners slating it or asking for there own forum. Also at meets and track days the more the better so if we stick with all mini's it will be more fun.

I've driven and worked on both new and old mini. Both are completely different beasts, both of which I enjoy driving, well in the case of the BM one it has to be the 's'. As for the old style, I prefer the late ones with the 13" boots but I must admit an old 1071 with 10 inchers is far more fun on a windy road. As for a 'new' mini forum, I've looked elsewhere and there are a few, but little used.
www.germini.co.uk is one or the mini2 one

What does that mean?
It's a different car. Fact.
There is no commonality between the two vehicles. Fact.
Why should the two not have seperate forums?
Don't get all arsey about it, I'm not knocking the car at all, I just fail two see any overlap between the two vehicles.
I've owned my modified MINI Cooper for a couple of years now, and have found every one of the 45,000 miles I've covered a joy.
I absolutely hate the grief given by 'classic' Mini owners, particularly as there seems to be no real fouding to any argument from either side.
I bought my car because, for the money, there was no other car that could offer the same levels of style, comfort, performance and downright value-for-money as the MINI. I didn't give two-hoots what it was called, or even who built it. MINI, BMW 1-Series, Joe Bloggs, a name means nothing to me (which is why I'd happily have no shame in owning a Skoda).
Classic mini owners should show a bit more sense than having a go at people for buying the absolute best car in its class simply because its called a MINI - because that's essentially what they're doing. If the MINI owners wanted a car which is undeniably less 'complete', but that had a huge following, admiration and respect, they'd have gone out and bought a classic mini. They're not at fault because they chose to do this.
The BMW MINI is very much a Metrosexual car - it can be owned by any gender, age or class. You see many girls driving the New MINI, but no more so than any other car of that size. Lennox Lewis and 'The Rock' both own BMW MINI's, and I don't think they're very 'poofy' and would probably have an interesting conversation with anyone who remarked otherwise to their faces.
When I first got my MINI I had absolutely no problem with drivers of the classic models. I personally wouldn't want one as they're too basic and too slow, but it doesn't mean I don't appreciate them. Besides, everyone has a right to own and love any car they like. But the amount of abuse and hassle I get from most classic mini drivers is unbelievable. So now I tend to just stare and laugh at the classic mini drivers who try to overtake or outdrive me in their little toy cars. A classic mini cannot do 140mph like my N/A car can, unless its been fettled to the point at which its not a classic mini anymore.
So roll on the New BMW MINI forum, and then we can let classic mini owners discuss their cheap toys amongst themselves. I never wanted it to come to this, but looks like there's no alternative!

Hey great another Mini forum and another MINI/mini war....
can't people just accept that they are both cool cars, with cool communities and leave it at that!
If any users of BMW Mini's are looking for a forum you could do worse than try www.miniaddiction.co.uk -- its a nice little forum, not too big,not too small and a nice friendly welcome

Sorry to be somewhat 'caustic', but am I alone in having absolutely no interest in the juvenile tone this thread has now taken. Original Minis are just old-fashioned fun. BMW Minis are just really well-engineered modern cars. There is just no comparison.
Absolutely! one is a MINI the other is another well designed car not as compact as a MINI but deserves the right to be classed as a great small car. You just cannot put a badge on a car and call it something its not, even if you have stolen the badge legally? sorry cooperman but you must have some interest or you would not have posted!!
