2006 Auto trans on a Cooper S . This is the 6 speed auto not CVT box as I'm sure you will know ?

So I decided to replace the gearbox oil , filter , gasket etc . As gearbox was banging into gear , loosing drive on a long run . Ok when cold but a pig when warm .

I don't have a ramp and jacked car up and tried to remove transmission sump only to be stumped by the Torx bolt which is under the subframe where it bends .

I removed front bumper assembley and managed to remove the front section of the subframe but I still couldn't gain access to the last bolt . Even loosened all the other subframe bolts further back and engine mount . Maybe on a ramp with the help of someone with lever bars access to this bolt might be possible ? How do the pros do it please?

I decide to just drain the oil and replace it , not great but it may help its issues ?

On removing inspection plug so much transmission fluid ran out ? This is before removing the plastic level plug inside the box. Should a lot of fluid come out even though the level tube is not removed yet ?

On replacing the drained fluid with new oil it only took about 2 litres ? The fluid was pouring out and I'm thinking is it all running out ? I put the plug in and ran it through the gears , removed the plug but not the tube and loads of oil came out ? I'm worried there's very little oil in the box now . Can these tubes fail ? It screws up quite a long way up the threads on the sump hole ? Is this right ?

There is very little on the net about this job ,pelican parts make it sound so easy but in reality it's a pig of a job without a ramp .

Be great to hear from the experts please ?

Thanks chaps

Please don't take this the wrong way but if you were unsure then you really shouldn't have drained the oil out.

It looks like a service fill is 4.5 litres, have you actually measured how much came out ? you would normally drain, fill and then get the engine up to a set temp and then recheck the oil level and adjust accordingly. You would need to cycle through the gears to ensure the fluid gets through the system. You would normally fill until the fluid started to run out of the fill hole. I have no idea where this is on the Mini.
