If it is a race motor then you'd well to think about SH Engineering (Peter Baldwins engine man) in the Midlands or or take your pick from Rob Selby, Ian Osbourne (OAP), Peter Vickers etc if you are 'darn Sarff.

m.e.d for me,

agree with dan and the kad 16 valvers, though dan has (i imagine) leart the same lesson i learnt years ago, pay cheap. pay twice!

Couldn't be further from the truth...I put the best bits available in my engine from day one which I hope is why it never missed a beat in 2 and a bit years. Ok, I broke a few baulk rings and eventually put a dog box in it, but I really drove it hard and monstered the synchro boxes a bit.

My engine cost me more in parts than it would cost you to pay KAD to build you one, I built mine myself as i'm the only person I would trust with almost 15k of engine parts...only me to blame if it went wrong...which fortunately it never did

A month after building it gave 159hp at 7600 on hi-techs rollers. 2 years later it gave 150hp on Aldons rollers and still going strong now.

Incidentally, the mid range of a kad engine is absolutely monstrous. My car pulled 30 - 50mph in 1.7 seconds....or half a second quicker than a 911 turbo.

I'd go with Bill Richards if building another mini engine, actually started collecting bits of his for a 1293 a few years back but gave up on the idea due to the TVR eating all my money, still have a set of omega pistons on balanced rods in the hall cupboard.

Bill can be pricey but no more than others, first time I visited there he set up an engine I had chucked together, car was running so bad before and spotted all the faults, got it running perfectly and made sure I had enough cash left over for petrol to get me home. since then I had a 1380 of his which was a cracking engine but let go due to me fitting the wrong plugs. I wasn't happy but Bill seemed more pissed off than I did when he saw what I'd done to one of his engines.

I've used ML motorsport for a few bits many years ago, they didn't seem to like performance parts though, 1293 running standard cams and lighten flywheels seemed their favourite.

I like Bill's ethos of having you watch your engine being built, so that you respect it. If you can't be bothered to take the time out, he won't build you one!
