Don't try this at speed kids, it'll tear your arm off.

We were going at snails pace and almost stopped at the point of contact...

And check your mirrors for motorcyclists if you ever consider this!

Actually just don't do it - it was stupid and irresponsible.

No ( they never wave to me )
But I would to a classic mini.
Metro owners probably do ,Metros are very similar to BMW MINIS much more like a BMW than a mini is.
Seen the advert where an Indian guy mods a car to look like a peugeot , I think perhaps BMW used a metro and modded it to get the MINI.

Seriously , driven one liked it but its not a patch on me mini, give me A plus and A power every time

Once (only once) a driver in a MINI flashed and waved at me in my Jet Black, so i flashed and waved back, fair enough, but my girlfriend sitting next to me went crazy!!! She absolutely hates MINI's and not only had a shout at the driver, but also shouted at me for encouraging him. She can't stand it if they overtake us on the motorway, but we had to concede last weekend when a Cooper S left us for dead at 105mph on the M4. Time to junk the 998 and get a 1380 methinks

BMW Mini's drivers own them as a status symbol.
How could a BMW driver wave back, they might drop their mobile phone?.

Real Mini driver's own them because they love them.
850 or Cooper S its all the same family, flash, wave and smile.

Well, since my first post i've had my BMW MINI 3 months and my impression is that some MINI drivers just don't get it when I wave or flash my lights! but a lot do, and respond accordingly. I do think it's a shame that some mini drivers seem to have such an issue with the MINI, but as I said I've owned an original mini for 6 years and had great fun with her, I still love the originals but I also love my new MINI - and my TVR for that matter!
I haven't got a problem with flashing any other mini (or MINI !) so if I do wave at you - please be nice!!

I've been out today and got waved and flashed (yeah, yeah) lots! Must be a summer thing as they're usually misrible round here.

Some of us own BMW MINI's because we think they are excellent fun on the road and on the track. It's the same problem as the Elise, pricks buy them as well as enthusiasts, don't tar us all with the same brush

Fair comment!.
Give it while for the BMW Mini to loose it's 'must have' fashion status and I guess we will see the true enthusiasts coming through,
then it will be welcome to the gang!!.

That may be true, but elise's haven't had three different generations of owners spanning nearly 50 years, I think the problem stems from the culture and history of the classic mini and the lack of it with the new MINI, this is why some owners feel angry, that many new MINI owners haven't experienced the classic mini and therefore won't have the faintest idea of what mini owning is about
I understand what you are saying, but the elise probably wasn't a good example, the new beetla maybe, but that's a different subject entirely........

To be honest, I could have, but never brought a mini, they looked a little dangerous on todays roads for me (maybe it was my driving style at the time ), I got my MINI because I wanted a sporty car that had all the gadgets in for less than £20k. I nearly get an Elise, but decided this was the better all round option.

If you get annoyed at how much the MINI plays on the mini heritage, you should see how the Americans are selling it!

I know what you mean, not wanting to diverge the subject of this thread, but can you believe Michael Caine! The cheek of him, how can he appear in the remake of the Italian Job knowing what it stands for, the americans must have paid him a fair bit of money for that, but its not even set in Italy....

I guess I would be more likely to flash my lights at the new Mini to get it to move over so I can get past in my BMW 728i, rather than acknowledge their presence when in my '64 Cooper 'S'

Somewhat ironic though

No doubt overtaking a mini too busy looking for other mini's to wave at

Is it really that important? MINI drivers aren't delibratley trying to annoy mini drivers, get over it, it's not like a few evil stares are going to make us go and have our cars crushed

The End.

Chill people.

Thought I'd stick my nose in here, haven't owned a Mini for a few years now moved on to TVR's now (coz I'm older and can afford the insurance)but I'd just like to say that although the new MINI is owned and built by BMW, let me assure you that it was totally designed in this country, by british engineers.BMW tried to do it themselves but couldn't, so the project came back to England.I was/am one of those engineers and nothing winds me up more, than when I read that BMW designed and engineered it.So hope you won't be so harsh on the new MINI knowing this. Must admit though, some of the drivers of them are pr**ks.

Was watching the mini 40 video the other night, in which Rover previewed the new MINI, funny as it was exactly the same then as it is now, just goes to show if BMW hadn’t got rid of Rover the car would still be the same just sold in a different showroom.

I've been reading PH for a bit now, and I thought I better post something quick as I have a MINI

Just letting you know that there are a certain percentage of us that flash and wave at MINI's or Mini's.

Not all of us have bought the MINI because it's a cheap BM or because it's all the go etc...

Some of us have had Minis in the past and wanted a change or loved the driving sensation of the MINI or wanted to be part of the MINI crowd which in effect is just like the Mini crowd,
so please don't come across all BM drivers and rest of the non idicating 3rd lane c**p.

All of the MINI drivers I have met have had nothing bad to say about the Mini and all wave and flash at either MINI's or Mini's.

I'll flash and wave at any MINI or Mini, so if you get a wave of flash from a MINI do us a favour and respond becuase we are just trying to get along.

Right rant over....

Yeah, RedUn is right. Don't go branding all us MINI owners the same as the countless beemers that carry sales reps around the country.

I always wanted an original Mini. My best friend got a 1275gt when he passed his test, long before I could afford lessons. It was absolutely knackered, real bucket of bolts. But it was fast and served as our introduction to the possibilities of an early grave. But what a great car

The thing to remember is the BMW MINI is not a Mini. Full stop. It just has the same name. Its not very small, its not a motoring innovation, its just really cool, well built and immensely enjoyable car to drive. It makes you smile when you go out in it. It makes you smile when its clean and when its dirty. Its turned me back into a car enthusiast

So lighten up a bit, okay? Nobody is trying to replace the original and best... its just evolved a bit

Yes, but do your MINIs have indicators?

Just joshing

But on a serious note, I wave at MINIs as well as Minis, I don't flash after my brother told me about the dopey old bastard who pulled out in front of him when he flashed at another mini (Well except on the way out of a mini show, when there's hundreds of the wee beasties...
