I’m doing the Goodwood track day with London and Surrey MOC on the 12th

so decided I better do some work on the car, fitted the new discs and pads as the old ones were warped, while I was there I fitted some longer studs and some solid subframe mounts, you could see the engine moving when rocking the steering so time to be replaced.

What a pain in the arse it was, everything took twice the time it should, didn’t finished until 11.30 then had to run the girlfriend home, still got a load of stuff to do, want to get the tie bar bushes changed and all the shocks changed, the big job is going to be fitting the cage, bucket seats and harnesses.

Why do I always leave it till the last minute?

You're not alone.

Thought whilst on paternity leave I would do the diff oil seals and linkage oil seal.

Took it to have the tracking done - oddly its cured my squeak.

Didnt get around to doing the oil seals and have discovered what I thought was excessive neg camber on the rear arms is actually excess pos camber (got the wear wrong, it was on the outside) so I now have that to contend with as well. No idea what could possibly cause it though...

Most Minis have a lot of pos camber on the rear. Or could be down to a dodgy rear subframe replacement.

Pretty much standard on most minis, you want to get yourself some rear camber brackets and get it set up properly.

Yep they are on the list for MITP.

I was reading Calver and he says that camber and track adjustable rears are the ones to go for. Oddly () it only seems to be MiniSpares that sell them...

Chap at the tyre place said this may help. Its worrying though, you can see the rear wheel leaning out...

I was going to go rose jointed bottom arms as well but it seems like that level of adjustability isnt needed on a road toy/track day special so have decided to save the money and get some good 1.5 deg fixed instead.

What size wheels do you have?

The camber is more noticeable with the 13's.

This can happen if the wheel has been given a good clout by a kerb at some time and has twisted the radius arm. If this is the case you probably also find it's toeing out a lot. This seems to be fairly common, I followed a mini into work that was seriously crabbing and it was obvious that one radius arm was badly bent. The guys tyre wear must have been interesting.

Hmmmnnn, is there an obvious way to tell if the radius arm is bent?

Will there be hairline cracks etc?

What 13’s did you go for?

I tried a set of Starmags mine last week but was disappointed, they really didn’t suit it so I might just get mine refinished.

Is your camber on both wheels?

Not sure, either Chrome MkII Superlights (depending on how they wear, any clue?) or Superlight Extremes.

I’ve heard the chromed wheels don’t last long if you use the car a lot, might be better off running polished alloy.

A friend keeps his chromed sport pack wheels for shows and uses the normal sport pack wheels for all other times as he was told they wouldn’t stay looking good.

Yeah thats what I had heard, I'll see whats on offer at MITP. I dont want the standard ones I know that much and theres not much other choice really.

Concerned about these radius arms now though...

If the camber is on both wheels its more likely the quality-tooling rover used to produce the subframe If it’s only on one wheel then you may have bent something.

All my minis had positive camber on the back, the later ones seem worse.

Hmmn will have to have a good look on straight ground tonight then.

These brackets seem the best place to start certaintly, I know its never had a replacement subframe so maybe its been like it forever and I've not noticed and no one has said anything.

It would be really handy if some of the Mini specialists offered a health check type affair where they put the car on ramps for an hour or so and listed everything slightly suspect but no one is willing in the slightest...

Most would take up a few days to list all bits that need doing
